Riskwise Consulting
Sydney
Permanent full-time | Remote within Australia | Occasional domestic travel
Riskwise Consulting is a growing specialist consultancy providing independent workplace investigations and advisory services to government, community, education, health and private-sector organisations across Australia.
Our work involves sensitive and complex workplace, integrity, psychosocial safety and safeguarding matters. We assist organisations to respond fairly and effectively to complaints, misconduct, workplace conflict, psychosocial hazards and other organisational risks.
Working remotely and closely with Riskwise’s Directors and Senior Consultants, you will manage workplace investigations and contribute to broader advisory projects. You will have considerable autonomy while remaining part of a collaborative team committed to high-quality, practical and defensible work.
Who we are looking for
This is a specialist investigations role. We are looking for candidates whose experience is grounded in personally conducting investigations, rather than in advising on, commissioning or overseeing investigations conducted by others.
We anticipate the successful candidate will come from one or more of the following backgrounds:
- Workplace investigations practice - currently or recently working as a workplace investigator with another specialist consultancy or investigations firm, or in a dedicated in-house investigations role within a large organisation.
- Legal practice - particularly employment, industrial, administrative or public law - with direct involvement in workplace investigations, inquiries or disciplinary matters.
- Administrative, regulatory, integrity or statutory investigations conducted within a government department, regulator, oversight body or similar agency.
- Human resources or employee relations, where you have personally planned and conducted workplace misconduct or grievance investigations and written the resulting reports.
- Equivalent professional investigative experience gained in a comparably complex and sensitive environment.
Applicants whose experience is confined to generalist human resources, complaint intake or case coordination, without hands-on investigative practice, are unlikely to be competitive for this role.
What you’ll do
- Manage workplace and integrity investigations from initial scoping through to final report.
- Review and analyse complaints, policies, correspondence and other documentary evidence.
- Plan and conduct interviews with complainants,
respondents and witnesses from diverse backgrounds.
- Prepare transparent allegations, evidence summaries, analysis, findings and recommendations.
- Apply procedural fairness and relevant legislative, regulatory and policy requirements.
- Maintain accurate case records and handle sensitive information securely.
- Liaise directly with clients and provide clear, timely updates throughout each engagement.
- Manage competing priorities, project deadlines, agreed scopes and budgets.
- Contribute to other Riskwise projects, which may include psychosocial incident investigations and risk assessments, workplace and culture reviews, safeguarding matters, conflict reviews, and policy or governance advisory work.
- Contribute to the continued development of Riskwise’s practices, systems and professional resources.
Essential experience and capability
- A completed undergraduate degree or higher in law, human resources, psychology, investigations, workplace relations, business or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience personally conducting workplace, employee relations, integrity, regulatory or other complex investigations - scoping, interviewing, evidence analysis and report writing.
- A sound understanding of evidence assessment, the applicable standard of proof, procedural fairness and defensible decision-making.
- Demonstrated exposure to psychosocial hazards and psychosocial safety in a workplace context.
- The ability to independently produce transparent, structured and well-reasoned investigation reports requiring minimal editing.
- Strong interviewing skills and the confidence to work with people involved in sensitive or distressing matters.
- Sound judgement, qualified independence, and the ability to manage multiple matters with limited supervision.
Highly regarded Experience in the following, in addition to the essential criteria above, will be highly regarded:
- Conducting psychosocial WHS incident investigations, psychosocial risk assessments or psychosocial safety reviews.
- Conducting safeguarding, reportable conduct or child-related conduct investigations.
- Public-sector investigations,
including public interest disclosures and codes of conduct.
- Workplace culture reviews or other complex organisational reviews.
- Preparing reports intended to withstand scrutiny by courts, tribunals, regulators or oversight bodies.
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline.
Essential requirements
- Full Australian working rights.
- A current National Police Check, or willingness to obtain one.
- A current Working with Children Check or equivalent state or territory clearance, or willingness to obtain one.
- A valid driver licence and willingness to travel domestically when required.
- A suitable and secure home-based workspace.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Teams and other Microsoft 365 applications.
Why join Riskwise?
- A permanent role in a growing specialist consultancy.
- Interesting and meaningful work across a diverse range of organisations and sectors.
- A remote-first working model with flexibility, balanced with client commitments and project deadlines.
- The opportunity to work closely with experienced investigators and subject-matter specialists.
- Exposure to workplace investigations, psychosocial safety, safeguarding and broader organisational advisory work.
- A supportive, professional and values-led team committed to fairness, integrity and quality.
How to apply Please submit your current CV and a cover letter of no more than two pages and please include:
1. Investigative experience. The investigations you have personally conducted, types of matters, your role, and approximately how many in the last two years. Please distinguish clearly between investigations you conducted yourself and those you supervised, commissioned or advised upon.
2. Complex evidence. One matter in which the evidence was contested, incomplete or otherwise difficult to assess: how you tested and weighed it, and how you reached your findings.
3. Psychosocial safety. Your experience with psychosocial hazards in a workplace context, including any psychosocial incident investigations, reviews or risk assessments. If you have not worked directly in this area, describe your exposure to and understanding of it.
4. Report writing. Your approach to preparing an investigation report, and how you ensure your findings are transparent, well-reasoned and capable of withstanding scrutiny.
5. Working with Riskwise. How you manage competing deadlines across concurrent matters, and what appeals to you about a remote-first, client-facing consulting role.
