This is a outstanding opportunity for an experienced epidemiologist to play a key leadership role in improving population health outcomes across one of Australia's largest and most diverse health districts.

Join the Population Health team at South Western Sydney Local Health District and contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of diverse communities through evidence-based public health practice.

- Lead the District's epidemiology and population health surveillance function, delivering insights that inform critical health programs, services and strategic decision-making.
- Develop and deliver advanced epidemiological and statistical analyses that help identify emerging health trends, measure outcomes and support priority population health initiatives.
- Manage and mentor a dedicated Epidemiology team while working alongside clinicians, researchers, universities and key partner organisations to advance population health research and evaluation.

What the role entails

- Lead population health surveillance, monitoring and epidemiological reporting across South Western Sydney Local Health District
- Undertake complex epidemiological and statistical analyses to support priority public health projects and service improvement initiatives.
- Develop population health profiles and provide evidence-based insights that inform planning, policy and decision-making.
- Lead and support a dedicated Epidemiology Team, including staff development, supervision and workforce planning activities.
- Contribute to research, evaluation and publication activities that strengthen the evidence base for population health programs and interventions.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

- Postgraduate qualifications in epidemiology, biostatistics, population health, public health or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience applying epidemiological, surveillance and biostatistical methods to health data.
- Demonstrated experience using statistical software such as R, STATA or similar analytical platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, presentations and publications for diverse audiences.
- Experience using databases and data management tools, including systems such as REDCap, Epi Info, Excel, Access or similar platforms.
- Proven stakeholder engagement, negotiation and relationship management skills.
- Current unrestricted Australian driver's licence (P2 acceptable).

Flexible Working

- This role offers the prospect to work across a highly collaborative Population Health environment, engaging with teams across SWSLHD and external partners to support district-wide priorities.
- Hybrid working arrangements may be negotiated

- Post graduate qualification combined with substantial practical skills and experience in either epidemiology, biostatistics, population/public health, or demonstrated equivalent professional experience Excellent knowledge of health data sets and demonstrated experience in the analysis and application of epidemiological and statistical methods to health data.
- Describe your experience applying epidemiological and biostatistical methods to health data. Please provide an example where your analysis informed decision-making, policy, service planning or program improvement.
- Provide an example of a complex epidemiological or statistical project you have led. How did you determine the most appropriate methodology, manage challenges and communicate the outcomes to stakeholders?
- This role requires working collaboratively with clinicians, researchers, government agencies and external partners. Tell us about a time you successfully built relationships and managed competing priorities to achieve a shared outcome.




- Describe your experience leading or mentoring staff in a research, epidemiology or analytical environment. How have you supported capability development, maintained quality standards and ensured delivery of work within agreed timeframes?
- Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
