About the role
Paynter Dixon Pty Limited is seeking a Senior Estimator to join our team on a full-time basis at our Head Office Rhodes NSW. As a Senior Estimator, you will play a critical role in our business, providing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for construction projects whilst driving profitability and supporting our project delivery teams. This position carries significant responsibility within our estimating department and directly influences our ability to win work and maintain competitive advantage in the construction market.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate construction estimates for a variety of building and civil projects
- Conduct thorough site assessments and analyse project specifications, drawings and documentation to inform estimate development
- Collaborate with project managers, architects and clients to clarify project scope and requirements
- Utilise estimating software and tools to generate professional tender documentation and cost analyses
- Source supplier quotations and negotiate pricing to ensure competitive and realistic estimates
- Review and quality-check estimates prior to submission to ensure accuracy and compliance with tender requirements
- Mentor and supervise junior estimating staff, providing guidance and fostering professional development
- Manage estimation projects from brief to delivery, ensuring deadlines are consistently met
- Maintain detailed records and documentation of estimates and cost data for future reference and benchmarking
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes and systems
What we're looking for
- Minimum 8–10 years' experience in construction estimating, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership capacity
- Comprehensive knowledge of construction methods, materials, plant and labour requirements across residential,
commercial and civil projects
- Proficiency with industry-standard estimating software and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong technical understanding of construction documentation, including architectural and engineering drawings
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify and manage project risks and cost variables
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience mentoring junior team members
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate estimates and recommendations to clients and management
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- A current driver's license and willingness to conduct site inspections as required
- Tertiary qualification in construction, quantity surveying, building or related discipline is highly desirable
To succeed in this role
- Strong knowledge of work breakdown structures (WBS) and current applicable construction rates at both elemental and BOQ level
- Demonstrated competence in estimating practices, with the ability to deliver accurate estimates within industry-set timeframes
- Understanding of project delivery across multiple engagement frameworks, including Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and Design & Construct (D&C;)
- Ability to communicate reliably, clearly and collaboratively within a high-performing team environment
- A proactive approach,
with the confidence to take ownership of estimates and contribute to successful project outcomes
