Lead the design of HV electrical networks — from distribution to transmission levels. NEN Consulting is looking for a Senior / Lead Electrical Engineer to join our Melbourne CBD Engineering team.

The opportunity:

You'll take ownership of HV network design — including transformer specification and primary substation design — across major infrastructure and utilities projects, from design through to construction and commissioning. Reporting to our Engineering Manager, you'll manage assigned work packages, support tendering and fee proposals, and work closely with senior engineers, project managers and clients to deliver safe, compliant and reliable outcomes. The role is also ideally placed as second-in-charge to the Engineering Manager, acting as a senior technical point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders.

What you'll be doing:

- Design and review HV electrical networks, transformers and substation layouts
- Prepare engineering designs, calculations and specifications to relevant codes and standards




- Manage assigned work packages from design through to commissioning
- Support project planning, budgeting and technical risk management
- Lead technical input from junior engineers into tenders, fee proposals and project bids
- Act as a senior technical point of contact for clients, contractors and internal stakeholders, building trusted working relationships
- Oversee technical documentation, reports and engineering deliverables, providing quality assurance of work prepared by less experienced engineers
- Provide mentorship, technical guidance and on-the-job training to junior and graduate engineers

What you'll bring:

- 10+ years' experience in electrical engineering and project delivery, with demonstrated HV network and transformer design experience
- Degree or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering; CPEng or eligibility (NER/RPEV) preferred
- Strong working knowledge of electrical codes, standards and regulatory frameworks
- Sound knowledge of energy market rules and regulatory frameworks at national and state levels
- An analytical, self-motivated problem-solver who thrives in dynamic delivery environments
- Highly developed communication skills and the ability to work across cross-functional teams
- DNSP design accreditation preferred
