We are partnering with a well-established global infrastructure business developing large-scale renewable energy and data centre projects to recruit an experienced Senior Legal Counsel with deep energy regulatory expertise. This is a key growth role. You will join a high-calibre, commercially focused legal team and play a central role in navigating complex regulatory frameworks globally to secure and deploy power at scale, supporting both current operations and new market entries in this fast-moving, high-stakes sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead legal and regulatory support on energy procurement, power arrangements and market participation, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), grid connection and access agreements, energy offtake structures, hedging arrangements, and associated regulatory approvals and compliance.
- Advise on interactions with energy regulators and market bodies across key jurisdictions, including applications, submissions, compliance programs, dispute resolution and strategic engagement on evolving energy market rules, network access, and renewable energy frameworks.
- Support corporate transactions, project financings and related deals involving energy assets and infrastructure platforms, with a particular focus on regulatory risk allocation, consent requirements and bankability from a regulatory perspective.
- Advise on the development and delivery of renewable energy and data centre infrastructure projects, including EPC and construction contracts, equipment supply agreements, and operations & maintenance (O&M;) arrangements, ensuring alignment with applicable energy regulatory regimes.
- Partner closely with commercial, development, technical and government/regulatory affairs teams to structure bankable, scalable energy solutions for large-scale power users while managing regulatory interfaces and stakeholder engagement.
- Manage external counsel efficiently across multiple jurisdictions, particularly on specialised regulatory and energy market matters.
- Provide pragmatic, solutions-oriented legal, commercial and regulatory advice to senior executives and cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-growth environment.
About You
- 7+ years post-qualification experience from a top-tier firm (or equivalent in-house), with substantial energy regulatory experience advising on dealings with energy regulators, market operators and network service providers.
- Strong working knowledge of energy market regulation, grid connection frameworks, renewable energy schemes and compliance obligations in at least one major jurisdiction (Australia, US or Canada preferred; multi-jurisdictional experience highly regarded).
- Commercially sharp, pragmatic and team-oriented, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-growth global business and translate complex regulatory requirements into practical commercial outcomes.
- Genuine interest in the intersection of renewable energy, infrastructure development, data centres and next-generation technology.
