Yatala | Up to $50/hr + Regular Overtime | 12pm Finish Fridays
We're looking for an experienced Mechanical Fitter who wants to be more than just another pair of hands.
GKG Engineering is a Yatala-based engineering business specialising in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of materials-handling equipment, conveyors and steelwork.
We're a close-knit team and we're now looking for an experienced fitter to become a key person within the business. We need someone who can take ownership of jobs, help lead the workshop team and get things moving without needing to be constantly directed.
The role
This is a hands-on senior position combining mechanical fitting with responsibility for helping organise and lead the team. You'll work across a variety of machinery builds, repairs, maintenance, installations and project work rather than doing the same production maintenance every day.
Day to day, you'll be involved in:
- Mechanical fitting, assembly and machinery builds
- Maintenance, fault finding and repairs
- Conveyors and materials-handling equipment
- Workshop machining and fabrication as required
- Reading drawings and working through jobs independently
- Helping coordinate jobs and priorities in the workshop
- Guiding less experienced team members
- Identifying what needs to be done and getting on with it
- Site installations, servicing and commissioning when required
Most work is based at our Yatala workshop, with some local and interstate site work. Interstate travel varies depending on projects — at times it may be around once a month, while at other times there may only be a handful of trips throughout the year. All work-related travel expenses are covered.
We're looking for someone who..
First and foremost, we need an experienced tradesperson who knows their way around machinery and can think for themselves.
You'll ideally be someone who:
- Is a trade-qualified Mechanical Fitter, Fitter & Turner or Fitter Machinist
- Has strong mechanical fitting and fault-finding experience
- Is confident working independently
- Takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do next
- Can plan a job and see it through
- Is comfortable helping lead and coordinate other tradespeople
- Has high standards and takes pride in their work
- Is practical, proactive and good at solving problems
- Enjoys working as part of a small, capable team
Experience with conveyors, fixed plant, machinery manufacture, installations or similar equipment would be highly regarded. We're less interested in finding someone who ticks every box on paper and more interested in finding an experienced fitter with the right attitude and capability.
What we offer
Up to $50/hr depending on experience
Regular overtime available
12pm finish every Friday
Permanent full time position
Day-shift workshop role
Varied project work — not the same job every day
All work-related interstate travel expenses covered
Most importantly, you'll be joining a genuinely good crew.
We're a relatively small team where people know each other, have a laugh and work together. This isn't a workplace where you're just given a job number and left out of everything else.
Our team gets involved in the projects we're building, solving problems and working out how to get the best result.
For the right person, this role also gives you the prospect to become a genuine 2IC within the workshop and have a real say in how jobs get done.
Interested?
If you're an experienced fitter who likes taking ownership, solving problems and being trusted to get on with the job, we'd like to hear from you. You don't need a perfectly polished CV.
Apply through SEEK or get in touch directly.
