The Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council of NSW (AH&MRC;) is the peak body for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services across New South Wales. We work alongside our Members to strengthen Aboriginal community-controlled healthcare and improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

Our work spans advocacy, policy, workforce development, health promotion, research, training and organisational support. We bring the experience and priorities of our Members into state and national decision-making, advocate for better health systems and investment, and help build the capability and sustainability of the Aboriginal community-controlled health sector.

About the Role

Make a meaningful impact on the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal children across NSW in this Senior Project Officer role within the Ear Health Coordination Program.

You’ll lead projects that strengthen ear health outcomes, working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), specialist services and sector partners to improve access to training, build workforce capability and deliver culturally relevant health promotion initiatives.

As part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you’ll help strengthen connections between ACCHOs and specialist ear health services, translating sector priorities into practical initiatives that make a difference to Aboriginal children and communities.

This role is ideal for an experienced project professional who is passionate about Aboriginal health,



community-led approaches and creating lasting improvements in health outcomes.

Responsibilities

Project Management

- Lead Communities of Practice and working groups with ACCHOs to support collaboration, workforce development, networking, and knowledge sharing.
- Coordinate program documentation, reporting, and deliverables to ensure milestones, funding requirements, and timelines are met.

Stakeholder Engagement & Team Collaboration

- Build and maintain strong stakeholder and community relationships, representing AH&MRC; at workshops and events and ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices inform programs and policies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support initiatives and foster an inclusive, culturally respectful, and supportive working setting.

Policy Development and Advice

- Research and develop evidence-based policy advice on complex health issues affecting the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Sector and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Prepare high-quality detailed briefings, reports, submissions, and resources to support advocacy, inform decision-making, and advance the interests of member services.

Reporting and Documentation

- Prepare documentation and project reports for internal and external stakeholders and ensure that these are accurate, up-to-date, and accessible.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications & Experience:

- Tertiary qualifications in health, social sciences,



a related clinical discipline (e.g., Aboriginal Health Practitioner, Registered Nurse, or Audiometrist), or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in primary health care, public health, or policy within the context of Aboriginal health.
- Proven commitment and capacity to working with Aboriginal communities and a strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures, health issues, and community dynamics.
- Ability to hold a National Police Check and current Working with Children Check.
- Ability to travel state-wide to local schools and Aboriginal Member Services.

Skills & Knowledge:

- Strong project management, planning, budgeting, and risk management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working with Aboriginal communities.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal health issues and social determinants of health.
- Experience developing, delivering, and evaluating health programs and initiatives.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally.
- Proficient in project management tools and software.
- Strong commitment to improving Aboriginal health outcomes, with cultural awareness, empathy, and respect.
- Proactive, organised, and adaptable, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
