The APVMA’s Office of the Executive General Counsel program is seeking applications for a Senior Quality and Risk Officer in our Governance Risk and Assurance section. This section plays a key role in building and operationalising strategies, frameworks and policies which support planning, governance, risk management, assurance and public transparency and accountability for the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA). The section works to support the APVMA achieve its purpose, vision and strategic objectives and to be a fit for purpose second line of defence across its full range of functions.

Located in either Canberra ACT or regional Armidale NSW, you will gain experience in the Australian Public Service, have access to a variety of flexible working arrangements, and expand your skills in Enterprise risk management, quality management, legislative compliance, business continuity and security (governance and physical security).

Working under limited direction, the Senior Quality and Risk Officer uses their technical expertise to contribute to the delivery of functions and the achievement of outcomes for which their team is responsible. They work as part of a small team in a multidisciplinary environment, possess an outcome focused mindset,



embody a proactive approach to achieving results and exhibit strong skilled ethics and judgement. They may also be asked to undertake work which contributes towards broader priorities and projects of the section.

Key responsibilities may include

- Actively contributes to the work of the Quality and Risk team to help ensure the delivery of its functions and the achievement of outcomes for which it is responsible.
- Supports a culture across the agency which advances the agency’s aspiration to be an exemplar of good governance within the Commonwealth public sector.
- Actively contributes to the development and maintenance of an appropriate suite of plans, frameworks, policies and procedures which support the effective delivery of functions for which the team is responsible.
- Develops and supports a range of internal and external stakeholder relationships, engaging with stakeholders on their needs and expectations and to achieve agency outcomes.
- Proposes and facilitates the adoption of innovative approaches and change which improves the delivery of the team’s functions.
- Contributes to the handling of complex and/or sensitive issues with tact, discretion, efficiency and professionalism.

To be a strong contender for the role, you will have:





Essential:

1. Demonstrated experience in supporting processes and projects relating to enterprise risk, quality management and/or legislative compliance functions.
2. Demonstrated experience working as part of a team to effectively deliver services/functions and achieve outcomes for which it is responsible.
3. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a rapidly changing environment, while applying strong organisational skills and a high level of attention to detail to consistently deliver high quality outcomes.
4. Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships across a range of stakeholders.
5. Strong research, analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
6. Demonstrated ability to self-motivate, work independently and display initiative and confidence.

Desirable:

- Tertiary qualifications in risk management, quality management, governance, business or a related field.
- Experience in the public sector and/or regulator operations.
