Wasply Talent Partnership
Brisbane
Company
This firm has been in operation for more than 20 years, with two partners and a team of over 20 staff, and the majority of the team have been with the business for five years or more, which really does say a lot about the culture and how people are treated here.
Work from home is also well established rather than something new they're trialling, with several of the team already working hybrid or fully remote. You can be based anywhere in Australia and work entirely from home, or split your week between home and the office if that works better for you. Hours can genuinely flex around school runs and appointments, there are no calls or emails after hours, and the whole team finishes at 3pm on Fridays, so the balance the firm talks about is actually built into how the week runs. Development continues regardless of where you work too, with internal training sessions and external tax updates running regularly and remote team members joining live.
The two directors are easygoing and an absolute pleasure to deal with, and they're flexible on how the role is structured as well. Full-time is welcome, and so is four days a week or school hours, because for the right person they're happy to build the role around what works.
Position
As a Senior Accountant, you’ll work closely with one of the Managing Partners and be given genuine ownership of a portfolio of long-standing clients. Depending on your experience, you’ll manage matters from the initial client conversation through to completion, building relationships directly with clients rather than simply preparing work that gets passed further up the chain. You’ll remain hands-on across the preparation and review of financial statements and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships and group structures, together with BAS, GST, tax planning, trust distributions, Division 7A and capital gains tax matters.
You’ll also help review the work of junior team members and provide mentorship and technical support where required.
Importantly, this isn’t one of those remote Senior Accountant roles where you’re simply sitting at home processing compliance work all day. The advisory work forms a natural part of looking after your clients, so as different matters arise you’ll have the opportunity to get involved directly, whether that’s restructuring, small business CGT concessions, a new business venture, an acquisition or sale, or simply helping a client work through a commercial decision. There’s also flexibility to shape the position around your strengths. If you enjoy reviewing and mentoring, there’s scope to take on more responsibility in that area, while somebody who enjoys remaining predominantly hands-on technically can equally build the role in that direction. The firm runs on Xero and XPM and is moving across to Active Workpapers, so the systems are contemporary and continuing to improve.
For those working fully remotely, the firm provides a complete work-from-home setup including dual monitors, an ergonomic workstation, laptop and docking station, together with a work-from-home stipend.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' Australian public practice experience within Business Services working at a Senior Accountant or above level.
- CA qualified or CPA qualified.
- Confident preparing and reviewing financial statements and income tax returns across companies, trusts and group structures, including
- Division 7A,
trust distributions and capital gains tax matters.
- An open communicator who genuinely enjoys building client relationships, whether working remotely or in the office.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage your own workflow and work autonomously.
- Experience with Xero and XPM is preferred, however candidates with MYOB, HandiSoft, APS or similar practice management software are warmly encouraged to apply, as the systems can be taught.
Additional Opportunities
Alongside this position, I am currently engaged on a number of assignments across the accounting and financial services sector, including several work from home roles that are not advertised publicly. If you are still weighing up your options, sometimes the easiest place to start is a confidential conversation rather than a formal application, so feel free to give me a call directly. Nothing you share goes any further, and your details are never presented to a firm without your agreement.
