The Information Management and Technology Services (IMTS) Branch plays a pivotal role in contributing to ACCC outcomes.
The IMTS branch expertly delivers easy to use and reliable technology solutions that help ACCC and business teams in meeting their objectives. The key priorities for the branch are to:
- Utilise technology so our agency can protect consumers and promote competition across Australia’s economy.
- Launch technologies that solve critical business issues and create current regulatory capabilities.
- Use and manage agency data assets that drive responsive and effective regulatory outcomes.
- Provide consistent, reliable, and secure ongoing IT services to the whole agency, including support of hybrid and flexible work.
- Foster a diverse and high-performing workforce underpinned by collaborative and flexible ways of working.
IMTS is responsible for some of the agency’s most critical ICT programs, including developing the technology behind Australia’s first National Anti-Scam Centre and the Australian Government’s new merger regime, the largest change to Australia’s mergers regime since the establishment of the Trade Practices Act 50 years ago.
The ACCC is looking for flexible individuals capable of working as part of a specialist ICT delivery team to lead and shape the user experience of high-impact digital projects that deliver meaningful outcomes for users. This role is responsible for driving end-to-end design, from discovery and research through to delivery and continuous improvement, working alongside project managers, developers, product owners, business analysts and subject matter experts to ensure that agency initiatives are met with thoughtful design and a commitment to delivery.
We are looking for a designer who combines deep UX expertise with curiosity, initiative and the ability to identify and craft opportunities across all parts of the project lifecycle. The role requires strong user advocacy, excellent communication skills, empathy, strategic thinking, and a commitment to agile and human-centred design principles and practices.
As a Senior User Experience (UX) Designer, you will:
- Lead end-to-end human-centred design activities, including user research, discovery, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing and final design delivery.
- Champion user needs and influence product direction by identifying opportunities, uncovering insights and translating complex problems into simple, intuitive experiences.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to design customer-focused digital solutions that balance user, business and technical needs.
- Drive product design through discovery, iterative delivery and continuous improvement using Human-Centred Design (HCD) principles and evidence-based decision making.
- Develop accessible, sustainable and technically feasible solutions aligned with ACCC design systems, brand standards and WCAG accessibility requirements.
- Provide expert advice and thought leadership on user experience, accessibility, usability, service design and emerging design practices.
- Manage multiple priorities in a quick-paced setting while building trusted stakeholder relationships and delivering high-quality outcomes
All candidates are expected to meet the APS Integrated Leadership Profile (ILS) for the classification advertised. Follow the link for more information on the ILS. This role in particular requires:
- Human-Centred Design (HCD) & UX Expertise: Demonstrated experience leading user research, discovery, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing and the delivery of user-centred digital products.
- Strategic Thinking & Initiative: Ability to identify opportunities, challenge assumptions, navigate ambiguity and independently drive meaningful improvements that create measurable impact.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Proven ability to build strong relationships, influence decision-making and work effectively with users, product owners, developers and senior stakeholders.
- Accessibility & Design Standards: Experience applying WCAG accessibility standards, usability best practices and design systems to create inclusive, compliant and high-quality user experiences.
- Project & Workload Management: Ability to manage competing priorities, shifting requirements and multiple workstreams while maintaining quality and delivery outcomes.

The following job specific criteria are also highly desirable:
- Experience with design tools such as Figma and developing design systems.
