Samsung C&T; has long been active in the energy business having delivered projects across the globe including Australian geography. These cover projects ranging from renewable energy generation, Transmission Lines and Gas power generation.
To strengthen our team, and in pursuit of new business opportunities, we are seeking an experienced Site Manager for Energy projects in Perth.
About the Role The Site Manager serves as the on-site leader representing for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of a hybrid energy facility.
In this role, you will hold accountabilities for all on-site activities, driving the project from groundbreaking through to mechanical completion, commissioning, and grid connection . You will manage all subcontractors, ensure strict adherence to the project schedule and budget, maintain world-class safety standards, and act as the primary interface for the client and regulatory authorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervising and coordinating all civil, mechanical, structural, and electrical subcontractors' scopes.
- Drive the day-to-day construction schedule to ensure critical path milestones—such as gas turbine arrival, battery enclosure installation, and energisation—are met on time.
- Manage the complex interface between the conventional gas turbine construction and the modular BESS deployment, ensuring seamless integration of the Balance of Plant (BOP).
- Enforce the project's Quality Management System (QMS), overseeing inspections, Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) verifications on-site, and signoffs.
- Maintain the Site Safety Management Plan, ensuring full legal compliance with all high-risk construction activities.
- Mitigate distinct concurrent risks, including heavy lifts (gas turbines/transformers), high-pressure gas pipeline integration, and high-voltage DC/AC BESS installations.
- Oversee strict adherence to the project's Environmental Management Plan (EMP), managing dust, noise, waste, and cultural heritage requirements.
- Oversee the transition from construction to the commissioning phase, working closely with OEM specialists for both the gas turbines and BESS chemistry/inverters.
- Coordinate closely with the grid connection team and network service providers (NSPs) to safely execute hot commissioning, compliance testing, and initial power injection.
- Lead the compilation of "as-built" documentation, operations manuals,
and safety dossiers for a clean handover to the client's operations team.
- Manage variations, progress claims, and potential disputes with subcontractors, protecting the Main Contractor’s commercial interests.
- Act as the one of the primary faces on-site, hosting regular progress walks, reporting on KPIs, and resolving client technical queries.
- Monitor site expenditures, logistics costs, and contingency usage against the project baseline.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, or Power Engineering, or equivalent technical trade qualification with extensive leadership experience.
- 8+ years in power generation or heavy industrial processing, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong operational knowledge of open-cycle (OCGT) or combined-cycle (CCGT) gas turbines, gas fiscal metering, and balance of plant (BOP).
- Experience managing utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems, including familiarity with inverters, fire suppression systems, and Energy Management Systems (EMS).
- Understanding of National Electricity Market (NEM) rules, connection agreements, and system strength requirements.
- Ability to pivot fluidly between mechanical thermal systems (gas) and digital, electrochemical systems (BESS).
- Calm and decisive under pressure during grid emergencies, equipment trips, or safety incidents.
- Solid understanding of how operational decisions directly impact power purchase agreements (PPAs) and market revenue.
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
- Australian Driver's License
