About the role The Sleep Scientist role involves independently conducting routine and complex PSG sleep studies, monitoring and recording both laboratory and home-based studies, as well as associated spirometry testing. The position includes participation in the analysis, interpretation, and reporting of sleep studies, and providing high quality patient care in a professional and supportive manner. The role does entail afternoon, evening and overnight shifts.

Key responsibilities

- Independently conduct routine and complex PSG sleep studies, monitoring and recording both laboratory and home-based studies, as well as associated spirometry testing
- Perform set up procedures for sleep study patients by applying electrodes and other sensors to the patient, ensuring good conductivity
- Explain testing and treatment procedures to patients
- Provide an optimal, high quality sleep diagnostic service to all patients
- Collect and document sleep study data
- Continuously monitor the quality of signals and adjust where necessary
- Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of results
- Perform technical troubleshooting on equipment, as required
- Perform spirometry testing as necessary
- Participate in the analysis, interpretation, and reporting of sleep studies

About you

- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field is essential
- Previous experience in sleep testing is desirable




- A qualification in Sleep Science is desirable
- Accreditation with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) or equivalent, highly desirable
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Robust relationship building and communication skills with a warm and approachable demeanour
- Comfortable in an advanced IT environment
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail
- A current Drivers' Licence and reliable vehicle
