North Sydney

About us

Shore Lawyers is a growing boutique law firm based in the heart of North Sydney CBD. We have a strong and expanding Wills & Estates practice, complemented by established litigation, family, commercial and property law practices.

We are seeking an experienced Wills & Estates Solicitor to join our team and play a key role in the continued growth of this practice area.

The role offers a diverse and compelling mix of estate planning, wills and testamentary trusts, probate and letters of administration, estate administration, contested estates, family provision claims and estate-related equity and trust matters, including complex proceedings in the Supreme Court of NSW.

This is an opportunity for a solicitor who enjoys both advisory and contentious estates work and is looking for genuine ownership of their matters and client relationships. You will work closely with the Principal and experienced senior lawyers while having the autonomy to manage your own files, advise clients directly and take matters from initial instructions through to completion.

You will be supported by an established team and modern practice systems, while having the opportunity to contribute to the development and growth of the firm's Wills & Estates practice.

For the right candidate, this is more than simply another solicitor position — it is an opportunity to establish yourself as a key senior member of a growing North Sydney law firm and help shape the future direction of an important practice area.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will ideally have:

- Minimum 2 years' PAE, with relevant experience in Wills & Estates;
- Practical experience in wills, estate planning, probate and estate administration;
- Experience in contested estates, family provision claims, estate litigation and/or equity matters will be highly regarded;
- Strong legal drafting, analytical and written communication skills;
- Confidence in managing matters with appropriate autonomy,

including direct client contact and responsibility for progressing files;
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with clients with professionalism, empathy and sound judgement, particularly in sensitive estate matters;
- Excellent attention to detail, organisation and file management skills;
- A proactive, commercially minded approach and willingness to take ownership of matters;
- The ability to work collaboratively with senior lawyers and other members of the team; and
- A genuine interest in developing a long-term career and recognised expertise in Wills & Estates.

Candidates with stronger experience in contested estates and Supreme Court litigation, or the ability to assist in the development and growth of the practice, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Tasks & Responsibilities

The role will involve a varied mix of advisory, transactional and contentious Wills & Estates work, including:

- Taking instructions and advising clients on Wills, estate planning, testamentary trusts, Powers of Attorney and Enduring Guardianship appointments;
- Drafting and reviewing Wills, Powers of Attorney, Enduring Guardianship instruments and other estate planning documents;
- Preparing and managing applications for Probate and Letters of Administration, including more complex estate administration matters;
- Advising and representing clients in contested estates, Family Provision claims and other estate-related disputes;
- Managing matters involving the Supreme Court of NSW, including preparation of affidavits, pleadings, applications, evidence and other court documents;
- Having independent carriage of matters,

with appropriate senior support available where required;
- Drafting high-quality legal correspondence, advices, settlement documentation and court material;
- Preparing comprehensive briefs to Counsel, including chronologies, summaries, observations and identification of key legal and evidentiary issues;
- Working directly with clients and maintaining strong, professional and empathetic client relationships throughout their matters;
- Working collaboratively with the Principal, senior solicitors, paralegals and other members of the firm;
- Proactively progressing matters, managing deadlines and maintaining high standards of file management and client communication; and
- Applying sound legal judgement, client management and risk management practices across all matters.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to take genuine ownership of their files and, depending on experience, contribute to the ongoing development and growth of Shore Lawyers' Wills & Estates practice.

Perks

- Genuine career progression – join a growing firm where you can develop your expertise, build your profile and progress into a senior or practice leadership role;
- Attractive remuneration package, commensurate with experience, together with performance-based bonus opportunities;
- Autonomy and ownership of your matters, with access to experienced senior lawyers when support is required;
- Opportunity to play a meaningful role in the growth and development of our Wills & Estates practice;
- Interesting and varied work across both estate planning and contested estates, including complex Supreme Court matters;
- Direct client relationships and the opportunity to develop your own professional profile and referral network;
- Support from lawyers, paralegals and administrative staff, allowing you to focus on high-value legal work; and
- A collegiate, professional and modern North Sydney CBD environment within an ambitious and expanding firm.
