Your Graduate Year at Avina

Your first year as a Speech Pathologist should be about developing your clinical identity, building confidence and having people around you who you can turn to when you're still figuring things out.

Our 12-month Graduate Program provides a structured pathway from university into clinical practice, beginning with a 9-week onboarding and gradual caseload ramp-up.

You'll Be Supported Through

- A structured 9-week onboarding and gradual caseload ramp-up
- Initial shadowing with experienced clinicians
- Reverse shadowing and supported sessions as you transition into independent practice
- Regular discipline-specific clinical supervision
- Support from experienced Senior Speech Pathologists and clinical leaders
- Discipline-specific graduate learning and development
- Ongoing multidisciplinary learning throughout your graduate year
- Case consultation, report review and clinical feedback
- Peer learning and connection with other graduates
- Communities of Practice and broader professional development opportunities
- Regular feedback opportunities to help us continue improving the Graduate Program

What You'll Learn You'll have opportunities to build your capability across a diverse range of Speech Pathology practice areas depending on your location, caseload and interests, including:

- Speech and language assessment and intervention
- Social communication
- Functional communication

- Goal setting and intervention planning
- Working with children, adults and families
- NDIS documentation and report writing
- Clinical risk and protected practice
- Working collaboratively within an MDT

What You'll Be Doing You'll deliver evidence-informed, person-centred Speech Pathology services across community, clinic, home and school environments.

Your caseload will build gradually as your skills and confidence develop, with ongoing clinical support available throughout your graduate year.

Meet Your Team - Port Pirie

If you're open to relocating, you'd be joining a small, close-knit regional team based out of our Port Pirie office. Caseloads here typically lean heavily paediatric, with a smaller adult component. You'll work across the full lifespan in both clinic and community settings including in clients' homes, schools and SIL/SDAs.

Clinicians from our Adelaide-based teams also regularly travel out to Port Pirie as part of their own roles, so you'll be well connected to the wider SA network, both in person and through Microsoft Teams.

It's a supportive team well suited to someone kind, curious, self-motivated and comfortable asking for support.
