The Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA) is seeking talented APS6 and EL1 professionals to join our Pricing and Analytics Branch. These roles provide an opportunity to apply data science, analytics and modelling expertise to support the pricing of Australian hospital and aged care services, helping to inform nationally significant funding and policy decisions.

Working in a collaborative and intellectually rewarding environment, you will contribute to the development of complex analytical models, generate insights from large and diverse datasets, and provide evidence-based advice to support decision-making. You will engage with a range of stakeholders and help translate technical findings into practical outcomes that improve Australia's health and aged care systems.

There are many compelling and challenging roles within the Pricing and Analytics Branch.

Roles are available at each of the following classification levels:

- Executive Level 1 - Technical Manager.
- APS Level 6 - Technical Analyst.

As a Technical Manager (EL1) in data science and analytics, your responsibilities may include:

- Developing or refining complex models for costing and pricing Australian health and aged care services.
- Analysing data collected from public and private hospitals, aged care facilities, and relevant government agencies to produce practical insights that answer complex policy questions and inform evidence-based decisions.
- Developing technical papers for the Pricing Authority (IHACPA’s governing board) and statutory advisory committees.




- Providing specialist advice to IHACPA working groups and working with stakeholders on technical issues.
- Supporting IHACPA’s Executive in explaining model results and other technical issues to external stakeholders
- Providing leadership by guiding team members, managing competing priorities, overseeing delivery of work program, and providing strategic advice on complex issues.

As a Technical Analyst (APS6) in data science and analytics, your responsibilities may include:

- Contributing to the development or refinement of complex models for costing and pricing Australian health and aged care services.
- Supporting the analysis of data collected from public and private hospitals, aged care facilities, and relevant government agencies to produce practical insights that answer complex policy questions and inform evidence-based decisions.
- Developing or contributing to technical papers for the Pricing Authority (IHACPA’s governing board) and statutory advisory committees.
- Providing or contributing to specialist advice to IHACPA working groups and working with stakeholders on technical issues.
- Supporting IHACPA’s Executive in explaining model results and other technical issues to external stakeholders.

Similar roles may also be available in this branch or other branches within the agency.)

To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made.

An applicant’s suitability for employment with Health will also be assessed through a variety of pre-employment check processes, such as:

- Satisfactory completion of a criminal history check, and where relevant, a Working with Children and Vulnerable People Check,
- Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required),
- Providing evidence of qualifications (where required).

To be eligible for these roles, applicants must possess the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

- Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in a quantitative discipline.
- Strong technical and analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in producing analytical code using tools such as SAS, SQL, or Python.
- Background in statistical methods and quantitative analysis to generate data insights and contribute to development and refinement of complex models.

This recruitment process is being used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions. Non-ongoing positions will be offered on a specified term basis for an initial period of up to 12 months with the possibility of being extended (this will not exceed a total of 24 months in the same or similar role).
