Engineering Team Lead | .NET / AWS

Melbourne | Hybrid (2 days per week in office) | $190k + super

There are Engineering Tech Lead roles where you manage roadmaps, shuffle Jira tickets around and slowly forget how software actually works.

This isn't one of them.

We're working with one of Australia's most established digital product businesses to find an Engineering Team Lead to lead a talented team working across a high-value suite of B2B SaaS products.

You'll lead a team of experienced Software Engineers, partner closely with Product and remain genuinely involved in the technology.

That doesn't mean sitting there smashing out tickets eight hours a day.

It does mean being comfortable reviewing PRs, getting involved in architecture, challenging technical decisions and occasionally jumping into the code when needed.

What you'll be doing

You'll lead a team of approximately eight engineers across two closely connected product areas, including several experienced Senior Engineers alongside mid-level, junior and offshore team members.

You'll work closely with Product and the wider business to shape the technical direction of products used by a significant B2B customer base.

You'll:

- Lead, coach and develop a strong engineering team
- Remain involved in architecture and technical decision-making
- Review code and contribute technically when needed
- Build and evolve scalable, reliable cloud-based products
- Work closely with Product on priorities, trade-offs and roadmap decisions
- Improve engineering practices across development, testing, deployment and operations

- Help modernise and evolve existing systems without trying to rewrite everything for the fun of it

What we're looking for: The big one is technical credibility.

You'll probably already be an Engineering Manager, Team Lead or Lead Engineer, but you'll have remained close enough to engineering that you can still have a meaningful conversation about architecture without calling the architecture team.

Ideally you'll bring

- Strong commercial C# / .NET Core experience
- Experience designing and evolving software architecture
- Robust cloud experience, ideally AWS
- Microservices and distributed systems experience
- Experience building scalable, high-traffic or customer-facing applications
- Modern software engineering and CI/CD practices
- People leadership, coaching and mentoring experience
- Strong stakeholder and Product management skills
- Front-end experience with Angular/TypeScript or React

B2B SaaS experience would be excellent, but we're far more interested in your technical and leadership capability than whether you've worked in a particular industry. Most importantly, you're collaborative.

There are strong Senior Engineers already in this team. They don't need someone micromanaging them. They need a leader who can listen, challenge, brainstorm and help them become even better.

The package:

Up to $190k + super, with potential flexibility for an exceptional candidate.

The role is Melbourne-based with a hybrid working model of two days per week in the office.

If you're a technical leader who still enjoys actually talking about technology, we'd love to hear from you.
