IHACPA is seeking confident individuals looking to make a difference to health and aged care in Australia. This position combines elements of data science, stakeholder management and leadership to contribute to IHACPA’s strategic goals.

Key responsibilities

- Understanding and analysing data collected from public hospitals, private hospitals, aged care providers, and other government bodies to design statistical models and answer complex policy questions.
- Providing input to the development of cost and pricing models for public hospitals and aged care services.
- Providing specialist advice to various IHACPA working groups, managing relationships, and working with stakeholders on technical issues.
- Preparing analytic working papers and technical documentation to communicate technical issues to key stakeholders.
- Supporting the IHACPA Executive in explaining model results and other technical issues to external stakeholders.
- Collaborating with other sections on IHACPA’s broader work program.

Mandatory requirement

- Bachelor’s degree or higher in quantitative discipline such as mathematics, statistics, economics, etc, or equivalent professional experience.

Key capabilities:
- Demonstrated ability to undertake projects in an uncertain environment, including determination, tenacity and passion in the delivery of challenging projects.
- Highly developed technical and analytical capabilities, with demonstrated expertise in mathematical or statistical analysis and model development, supported by rigorous attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience in developing clear and effective code preferably using SAS, Structured Query Language (SQL), R, or Python to understand and analyse data.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and deliver robust, pragmatic analysis while navigating policy,



operational and stakeholder constraints.
- Demonstrated experience in contributing to a high performing multi-disciplinary team.
- Critical thinking skills, including the ability to develop and assess the quality and applicability of complex analysis and modelling.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information that is appropriate for a range of audiences.

Desirable qualifications and experience
- Postgraduate qualification in quantitative discipline and/or health data science is highly desirable.
- Hospital and aged care pricing models, experience in health data science and analytics.
- Mathematical or statistical analysis and model development, particularly using health data, and experience using SAS, SQL, R, or Python in the context of data science and data analytics.

- To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made.
- An applicant’s suitability for employment with Health will also be assessed through a variety of pre-employment check processes, such as:
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal history check, and where relevant, a Working with Children and Vulnerable People Check,
- Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required),
- Providing evidence of qualifications, and

- To be eligible for role, applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in quantitative discipline such as mathematics, statistics, economics, etc, or equivalent qualified experience.

- This recruitment process is being used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions. Non-ongoing positions will be offered on a specified term basis for an initial period of up to 12 months with the possibility of being extended (this will not exceed a total of 24 months in the same or similar role).
