Department Of Education

Australia

Our Purpose The Department of Education creates a better future for all Australians through education.

Our Role and Priorities

We provide strategic direction and national leadership of Australia’s education system – through early years, school, higher education and research.

We advise the Australian Government on education.

We steward the government’s vision for reforming Australia’s education system.

About the Register The Department of Education Temporary Employment Register is open for individuals to register their interest in non-ongoing (temporary) employment opportunities with the department.

The register enables the department to access suitable and experienced individuals for temporary employment opportunities. This is an expression of interest only and there is no guarantee that opportunities will become available.

- Roles are only available on a temporary (non-ongoing) basis.
- Non-ongoing contracts can be issued for an initial period of up to 12 months, with potential for one 6-month extension.
- Opportunities for ongoing engagement or promotion under the Public Service Act 1999 are not available through this recruitment register.
- You will only be contacted in the event a vacancy arises that matches your skills and experience, and your application is not a guarantee that an offer of employment will be made.
- Applications remain active until 31 March 2027.
- We also encourage you to apply for any future vacancies through our careers portal.

We are seeking highly motivated, adaptable individuals with a positive mindset and a range of expertise and transferable skill sets to work collaboratively to help the department deliver on its priorities.

The department is committed to having a versatile and inclusive workplace and recognises and values the diversity of the wider Australia community. We encourage and welcome applications from people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTIQ+ people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and mature age people.

How to Apply

Our online application form will ask you to express an interest in roles from the APS Level 3 to Executive Level 2 classifications, indicate your preferred locations, as well as select what work areas you have an interest and experience in. We also ask that you fill out some basic information about yourself as well as attaching an up-to-date resume.

We strongly recommend that you use a personal email address rather than your work email address to ensure you don’t miss any communication.

Employment at the Department of Education is subject to conditions prescribed within the Public Service Act 1999 including:

- Citizenship: Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.
- Security Clearance: You must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a level designated by the Department.

Some opportunities may have additional requirements such as maintaining a valid Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration or Working with Children Check (WWCC). Our Child Safe Policy establishes the expectations of all staff to provide a safe environment for children and sets out our approach to managing risk to children and young people arising through the day-to-day work of the department.
