Reporting to the Senior Manager, Internal Audit, the Internal Auditor will play a pivotal role in strengthening governance, accountability, and operational integrity across Return-It’s Container Deposit Scheme network. You will be responsible for conducting audits, performing verification activities, supporting fraud detection, and assisting with compliance monitoring across all Return-It sites. The role also includes supporting regulatory audits, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, transparency, and alignment with contractual and regulatory requirements.
This is a 12 Month Maternity leave contract position.
About the role
- Conduct risk-based operational, transactional, and financial audits across Return-It sites and networks, including refund points and material recovery facilities.
- Validate container data integrity through system audits, source documentation, and field verifications.
- Perform live transaction monitoring, data sampling, and on-site and remote audits.
- Investigate anomalies, flagged discrepancies, and support fraud detection and prevention activities.
- Prepare clear audit documentation and monitor the implementation of audit recommendations.
- Liaise with scheme participants, business units, IT teams, and regulatory bodies during audits and inspections.
- Support ad hoc audits,
special projects, and urgent compliance or risk management tasks as required.
- Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in all audit activities.
About you
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Professional certification (CPA, CIA, CISA, or CFE) is preferred.
- 2–3 years of internal or external audit experience, ideally in waste management, environmental services, or regulated industries.
- Strong knowledge of audit standards, risk management, internal controls, and compliance requirements.
- Skilled in stakeholder engagement, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Solid analytical skills, investigative mindset, and attention to detail.
- High integrity, discretion, and sound professional judgment.
- Proficiency in audit software and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel and Power BI).
- Flexibility to travel occasionally to audit sites and adjust working hours to meet audit requirements.
