Picton Civil | South West & Perth, WA | Reports to: Operations Manager

Picton Civil is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Business Development Manager – Dry Hire | Plant & Equipment to drive the continued growth of our dry hire business across Western Australia.

This is not a desk-based sales position.

We are looking for a well-connected, outgoing and commercially driven individual who knows the civil, earthmoving, mining and resources industries, understands mobile plant and equipment, and has the relationships and personality to get in front of the right people and generate opportunities.

The Opportunity

Picton Civil operates an extensive fleet of modern mobile plant and equipment and sees significant opportunity to expand our dry hire business throughout WA.

We are looking for someone who can take ownership of this growth, with a primary focus on dry hire while identifying opportunities that complement Picton Civil’s existing wet hire and project works.

You will be responsible for developing new customers, strengthening existing relationships, identifying upcoming projects and equipment requirements, and ensuring Picton Civil is front of mind when contractors and clients need plant.

An extensive existing WA client and industry contact network is essential.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Develop and grow Picton Civil’s dry hire customer base across WA

• Proactively identify and pursue current hire opportunities

• Build and maintain relationships with civil contractors, mining companies, resource clients and project teams

• Maintain regular contact with existing and prospective customers

• Use your existing industry network to generate opportunities

• Visit clients, projects and sites rather than relying solely on phone and email sales

• Understand customers’ upcoming workloads and forecast equipment requirements

• Match customer requirements with available Picton Civil equipment

• Prepare and follow up hire proposals and commercial opportunities

• Work closely with our operations, workshop and management teams to maximise fleet utilisation

• Monitor competitor activity, market demand and hire rates

• Identify opportunities for longer-term hire arrangements and preferred supplier relationships

• Maintain a strong pipeline of current and future opportunities

• Report on sales activity, pipeline, conversions and fleet demand

About You

We are looking for someone who is naturally comfortable dealing with people and enjoys building long-term business relationships.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• 10+ years’ relevant industry experience in mobile plant, earthmoving equipment, equipment hire, plant sales or business development

• An extensive existing client contact list and well-established network within the WA civil, mining, construction and/or resources sectors

• Existing relationships with project managers, supervisors, procurement teams, plant managers and other industry decision-makers

• Strong knowledge of excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, water carts, dump trucks and associated mobile plant

• A proven track record of converting industry relationships into profitable plant hire, equipment or civil contracting opportunities

• The confidence to walk onto a project, introduce yourself and develop relationships

• Excellent communication and negotiation skills

• A practical understanding of what customers need from an equipment hire supplier

• Strong commercial awareness

• A proactive and results-driven approach

Most importantly, you will be personable, outgoing and genuinely enjoy getting out into the industry and talking to customers.

What We Offer

• Highly competitive salary package, dependent on experience, industry knowledge and existing client network

• Fully maintained company vehicle

• Phone and laptop

• Significant autonomy to develop the market

• Direct access to company management and decision-makers

• A substantial fleet and operational team behind you

• Opportunity to take ownership of and drive the growth of an important part of the Picton Civil business

For the right person, this is an opportunity to take ownership of a significant growth area within an established WA civil contractor.

This is a senior business development role for someone who already knows the WA plant hire market, has an extensive client contact base and can demonstrate a proven history of converting relationships into profitable hire opportunities.

If you know the WA plant and equipment industry, have the contacts, and enjoy turning relationships into business, we’d like to hear from you.
