CBC Fremantle is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition for boys in Years 7-12. Founded by the Christian Brothers in 1901, the College has served the local Fremantle community for over a century helping families to raise boys who continually strive for excellence and who exhibit Catholic Leadership in their quest to establish a more just and peaceful society.

The College seeks to assist in the spiritual, academic, cultural, physical and emotional development of boys while acknowledging the primary role of the family as educator. As such, the College encourages its students to rigorously pursue excellence in all dimensions of their lives and to become leaders within their community through the active expression of their faith.

The successful applicant will be expected to work cooperatively with all members of the teaching staff in the interests of the students. They will primarily assist a student with their integration into mainstream school at CBC Fremantle. Experience in working with a student with special needs is desirable. In carrying out these duties you are directly responsible to the Head of Learning Area – Academic Care and The Deputy Principal – Teaching and Learning.

The successful applicant will:

- Be willing to complete the requirements for Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School.

- Be willing to become an active member of the CBC Fremantle community with a strong commitment to promoting and supporting the varied aspects of College life.

- Be a knowledgeable, skilled and suitably qualified Education Assistant; Special Needs Qualification required.

- Be able to assist teachers in ensuring the inclusion of students with special needs in the full life of the College.





- Have excellent interpersonal skills which promotes positive and mutually beneficial relationships.

- Have well developed written and oral communication skills.

- Be able to work cooperatively as part of a team and individually with students.

- The successful applicant will be innovative, flexible and forward-thinking. They will be enthusiastic about their work and open to challenge and change. The successful applicant will be able to work collaboratively, efficiently and discreetly in a support role with a number of teachers.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

- Under the direction of classroom teachers and the Head of Academic Care, provide in-class support to individuals and small groups of students with particular special learning needs.

- Assist teachers with the modification and adjustment of curriculum materials.

- Assist students in the use of modified and adjusted resources.

- Assist teachers with the construction and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

- Work independently, one on one, with students implementing learning activities and IEP goals.

- Provide and record feedback on students’ day to day behaviour, progress and well-being to classroom teachers and Head of Academic Care.

- Assist with managing the medical needs of students with disabilities e.g. PEG feeds, glucose monitoring, toileting (e.g. using a urinal bottle).

- Supervise students with disabilities during school breaks and on excursions, incursions and other College events.





- Undertake other duties appropriate to the role under the direction of the Head of Academic Care.

- As part of the Academic Care Team, promoting policy and practice which ensures just outcomes for students with particular learning needs.

- Be willing to undertake formation programs with Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) as required by the College.

- Attend meetings and relevant professional development opportunities as required by the Principal.

- Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Principal.

Position Details

- Full-time, ongoing.

- 32.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

- Term time only (40 weeks are worked).

- Commencing 1 January 2027.
