About Us

We're on a mission to create a brighter future, where you can be a change maker at the actual source. We're one of Australia's largest water utilities with over 30% of Victoria's population relying on us for their essential water and sanitation services.

Our award-winning culture fosters an inclusive, collaborative, and flexible environment that enables our people to thrive. Here, you'll be inspired and challenged to grow alongside us.

We're committed to reconciliation and supporting the self-determined role for Traditional Owners/Custodians in water and land management.

The Role

At Yarra Valley Water, we play a vital role in delivering essential water and sanitation services to our community. When incidents or emergencies occur, our ability to prepare, respond and restore essential services matters.

We're looking for an Emergency Management Officer to join our small and service-oriented team and help strengthen Yarra Valley Water's preparedness, response and recovery capabilities.

This is not a frontline emergency responder role. Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Management, you'll provide project, governance, coordination, administrative and logistical support that helps make emergency management practical and effective across the organisation.

You'll coordinate projects, training and exercises, support governance and reporting, manage information and resources, and work with stakeholders to build capability and capacity.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys bringing structure to complex work, building relationships and making things happen behind the scenes in an important and evolving area of the business.

Your Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Management, you'll support the delivery and continuous improvement of Yarra Valley Water's emergency management arrangements across the organisation.

You will:

- Monitor and distribute emergency intelligence, alerts and warnings to support organisational awareness and decision-making.
- Coordinate the administration, scheduling, logistics and evaluation of emergency management training and exercises.
- Support the recruitment, onboarding and development of the Incident Management Team workforce.
- Develop and maintain dashboards,

reporting and analysis to identify capability gaps, trends and improvement opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of training, exercises and incident activations.
- Coordinate and contribute to debriefs and after-action reviews, capturing lessons learned and recommendations.
- Maintain and improve emergency management plans, procedures and supporting documentation.
- Monitor compliance with emergency management governance requirements and coordinate required updates.
- Track emergency management actions, improvements and organisational commitments.
- Maintain awareness of emerging hazards and risks, including natural, physical, personnel, cyber, information and supply-chain risks.
- Provide operational coordination and support to Incident Management Teams during activations.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across Yarra Valley Water to strengthen preparedness and resilience.

What we're Looking for

You'll be organised, proactive and comfortable working in a complex operational environment where priorities can change quickly.

We're looking for:

- Experience working in a critical infrastructure or utility environment.
- Experience supporting emergency management or business continuity arrangements.
- Strong interpersonal, relationship-building and negotiation skills.
- The ability to coordinate multiple activities, stakeholders and priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with reporting, information management and data analysis.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Strong attention to detail, accountability and follow-through.
- A commitment to safety, service excellence and continuous improvement.
- Experience in procurement, program or project management will also be valuable.
- A relevant tertiary qualification is highly desirable, although relevant industry experience will also be considered.
