Bring your dog. Three or four days a week. Finish at four, every day.

This is a job that stays at work.

- No weekends and no public holidays. Ever.

- No overtime. When the day is done, you go home.

- Standard hours are 8:00am to 4:00pm.

- Four days a week for your first three months while we train you properly, then three days a week from there on.

- Two of your days overlap with another team member. On those days there is the option to start early and finish early if that suits you better.

- We do a grocery shop every fortnight and stock the staff kitchen with whatever the team asks for.

Your dog is welcome here

Not as a novelty, and not just on a Friday. If your dog is friendly and toilet trained, they come to work with you. It is one of the better things about the place and the team would not give it up.

We are a family business and we run it like one

If something comes up at home, a sick child, a school event, an appointment you cannot move, you tell us and we sort the day out between us. Nobody here has to choose between the job and their family. That is not a perk we advertise and then forget about, it is how the place actually works.

The day is yours to run

This role is built for someone who wants to be left to it. Once you know the systems, you set the rhythm of your own day. Put your podcasts on if you like, as long as you can hear the phone. When a customer or a courier walks in, you follow the process we have designed, and then you are back to it. Nobody is standing over your shoulder, and nobody wants to be.

We are hiring for fit, not experience

Almost anyone can do this job with enough training. There is a learning curve, the same as any current role, and once you are through it the work is yours to run. So we are far less interested in whether you have done this exact job somewhere else than in who you are.

We are a small team in one building. You will be in each other's company every day you work, so character and attitude count for more here than a resume that ticks the boxes. What that looks like in practice:

- You read the instructions, and you ask when something is not clear

- You do what you said you would do, and you say so when you have not

- You get on with people, the team, the customers and the courier drivers

- You care that the right item ends up in the right box

- You want this for the long run, not as a stopgap

If you have never worked in a warehouse, that is not a problem. We will train you.

About us

Timberbits is an online retailer of woodworking supplies with a loyal and growing customer base. Our reputation is built on getting orders right, getting them out on time, and being easy to deal with. We are a small team and the days are steady rather than frantic.

Next year we are opening a woodworking school right next door. If picking up a new skill appeals to you, you are welcome to do the classes in your own time at no cost. Knowing something about what we sell helps, but it is not something you need on day one.

The role

The core of it is picking, packing and dispatching customer orders accurately. Beyond that we cross train across the whole business, so you will also get into stock receiving, inventory, helping customers on the phone and in store, and general admin.

Day to day you will be

- Processing and dispatching online orders

- Receiving stock and keeping the warehouse organised

- Helping customers over the phone and in store

- Supporting the general running of the business

How to apply

Applications without a cover letter will not be read. That is not us being difficult. The answers below are how we assess fit, and fit is what this hire turns on, so an application without them gives us nothing to go on.

Mention this job title in your cover letter and answer these four:

1. Read back over this ad. Which parts of it made you apply, and what in you makes you a fit for what we have described? Tell us about you, not your work history.

2. Four days a week for the first three months, then three days ongoing. Why does part time suit you at the moment?

3. Three days a week at $28.45 per hour. Does that work with what you need from a job right now?

4. Tell us something you enjoy outside of work.

A police check is required before employment contracts are finalised.
