Toscano's is a thriving, high-quality gourmet grocery store located in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne. We pride ourselves on offering the finest fresh produce and gourmet goods, and we are currently looking for a reliable Cook to join our kitchen team.
The Opportunity
This is a casual role with excellent scope to move into permanent or full-time employment for the right candidate.
- Hours: 30–38 hours per week.
- Shifts: Day shifts only.
- Availability: Requires working at least 1 weekend day.
- Pay Rate: Paid in accordance with the General Retail Industry Award.
Purpose of the Role
You will support day-to-day kitchen operations by cooking bulk retail meals and traditional Italian specialty dishes. Your role is vital in maintaining high culinary standards and keeping our popular ready-to-eat displays fully stocked for our customers.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Bulk Cooking: Prepare and cook high-volume retail ready-to-eat meals on a daily basis.
- Italian Menu Specialties: Cook authentic traditional Italian dishes, including meatballs, cannelloni, lasagna, and signature sauces.
- Fried Production: Prepare and cook fried items efficiently,
including chicken, pork, and cotoletta.
- Prep & Stock Runs: Handle high-volume, repetitive meal prep and physically move stock up and down stairs as required.
- Hygiene & Safety: Maintain exceptionally clean, punctual, and safe work habits in line with food safety procedures.
Skills & Attributes
- Reliable & Punctual: Someone who shows up on time and maintains a clean, organized work workplace.
- Experienced: Minimum 1 year of commercial kitchen experience handling high-volume cooking.
- Resilient: Comfortable and efficient when managing high-volume, repetitive kitchen prep.
