CAWLS is a busy community legal practice with a vibrant and dedicated team committed to providing representation and excellent outcomes for our clients through law reform, legal advice & representation, community legal education and outreach. Many of our clients are women who have experienced or are experiencing Domestic and Family violence.
We are seeking a self-motivated candidate to join our team as project community engagement officer supporting our Integrated Community Justice Partnership. This position is based in Alice Springs and includes travel assisting our outreach team to deliver services in remote communities across Central Australia. Casual or part-time will be considered. This contract runs until 30/6/2028 (may be ongoing subject to funding).

CAWLS is an accredited community legal centre, a member of Women’s Legal Services Australia, and a specialist domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) service.
About the Integrated Community Justice Partnerships project
The purpose of the ICJP project is to support a range of initiatives supporting family and community safety, including integrated community justice partnerships,
increased outreach services such as legal and wraparound support, and community legal education. This grant opportunity is designed to facilitate the delivery of culturally appropriate, targeted strategies to prevent and address community safety and family safety, with a focus on expanding access to services in remote Central Australia that align with community needs.
About the Role
We are seeking an organised, proactive and community-focused Project Officer to support the planning, coordination and delivery of CAWLS Integrated Community Justice Project across Central Australia.
Working in a remote and culturally diverse environment, the Project Officer will coordinate project activities, build strong relationships with community members and stakeholders, support project reporting and administration, and help ensure projects are delivered effectively, respectfully and on time.
This role is suited to someone who is adaptable, practical and comfortable working across a range of responsibilities. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills, cultural awareness, and the ability to work collaboratively with Aboriginal communities, local organisations, government agencies and other stakeholders.
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- An elevated level of collaborative and facilitative skills with proven abilities to communicate, negotiate, investigate and consult at appropriate levels with colleagues, community, government and private sectors;
- project management knowledge and experience
- an understanding of the cultural, social, and political landscape of remote Indigenous communities, with a demonstrated commitment to cultural respect and sensitivity to effectively engage with Indigenous communities and local stakeholders.

- Confident using Microsoft Office and standard project management and administrative systems.
- Comfortable travelling regularly to remote communities.
- Able to exercise sound judgement, maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.

Essential Criteria
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- High level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
- Current Australian driver's licence.
- Ability and willingness to undertake regular remote travel.
- A strong commitment to cultural safety, community engagement and respectful practice.
