The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal Community and is the largest organisation of its kind in Australia. About the role
As an Intake Worker with Lakidjeka, you will provide culturally informed advice to Child Protection regarding reports involving Aboriginal children and young people. Drawing on the importance of connection to family, Community and culture, you will help ensure decisions are guided by the best interests of Aboriginal children and support fair, respectful and culturally safe outcomes. Working closely with Child Protection, Aboriginal services and the statewide Lakidjeka team, you will play a vital role in advocating for children and families while strengthening pathways to culturally responsive support. Participation in the Lakidjeka after hours roster may be required.
About You
You are passionate about supporting Aboriginal children, young people and families and understand the importance of culture, Community and connection in achieving positive outcomes. You bring strong knowledge of Aboriginal child and family services, sound judgement in assessing risk and wellbeing, and the ability to provide culturally informed advice that places the safety of children first. With strong relationships across Community, government and service sectors, you confidently advocate for culturally safe responses, maintain accurate records and stay informed on child welfare legislation, policy and practice. You thrive in a collaborative team environment,
contribute to continuous learning and are committed to strengthening outcomes for Aboriginal children and families.
- Desirable:
- A recognised Diploma of Community Services Work, or similar discipline/framework with demonstrated industry experience in working with Aboriginal families in community.
- Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Victorian Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
