Gerringong Medical Practice is seeking a casual Medical Receptionist to join our friendly and supportive team. This position offers a minimum of one day per week, with additional hours available to cover staff leave and the potential for increased hours in the future. There may also be opportunities for the successful applicant to develop Medical Practice Assistant (MPA) skills and take on additional responsibilities.
Medical Receptionists are valued and respected members of our team and play an important role as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, helping to create a positive experience for everyone who interacts with the practice.
Practice hours are 8:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday and 8:00am to 12:00 noon on Saturdays.
Key Responsibilities
- Greeting patients and visitors in a friendly and qualified manner
- Answering telephone calls and assisting with appointment bookings and enquiries
- Assessing the urgency of patient requests and directing enquiries appropriately
- Processing accounts and payments using practice management software
- Maintaining accurate patient records and documentation
- General reception and administrative duties

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Compassionate, caring and patient-focused
- Solid work ethic and a positive attitude
- High level of attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a busy environment
- Adaptable, reliable and quick to learn new systems and processes
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Confident using office equipment and computer systems
- Qualified presentation and manner
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Previous medical reception experience
- Knowledge of Best Practice software
- Experience in a general practice or healthcare setting
- Medical Practice Assistant (MPA) skills and experience, or an interest in developing these skills
