About the role

Inner City Metals is seeking an experienced, reliable and hands-on Yard Foreman / Yard Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day operations of our busy scrap metal recycling yard in Laverton North. This is a key operational role suited to someone who is confident managing people, machinery, stock movements and daily yard activities while maintaining a robust focus on safety, productivity and organisation. The successful applicant will be a practical leader who can take ownership of the yard, effectively supervise employees and work closely with management, transport and administration teams to ensure the operation runs safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

- Oversee the safe, efficient and productive day-to-day operation of the yard

- Supervise all yard employees and allocate daily duties and priorities

- Lead by example and ensure employees follow company procedures, safety requirements and PPE requirements

- Coordinate the movement, sorting, processing, storage and dispatch of scrap metal

- Ensure materials are correctly identified, graded and stored in designated areas

- Purchase incoming scrap metal, ensuring materials are correctly identified, weighed, recorded where required

- Monitor stock levels and provide accurate stock information to management when required

- Coordinate incoming and outgoing trucks, bins and containers to maintain an efficient workflow

- Ensure delivery, collection, weighbridge and other operational documentation is completed accurately

- Communicate effectively with transport, export, administration and management teams

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

- Previous experience as a Yard Foreman, Yard Supervisor, Leading Hand or similar operational supervisory role

- Experience within the scrap metal, recycling, waste, transport, construction,



manufacturing or heavy industrial industry highly regarded

- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and motivate a yard team

- A hands-on attitude and willingness to work alongside the team when required

- Good knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements

- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise daily workloads

- Good communication skills and the confidence to deal with employees, customers, drivers and management

- Attention to detail, particularly with weights, stock records and documentation

- Experience operating forklifts and/or heavy machinery

- Current forklift licence

- Excavator/material handler experience would be highly regarded

- Ability to identify different grades and types of scrap metal would be highly regarded

- Basic computer/iPad skills

- Current driver's licence

- Reliable, punctual and able to take responsibility for the operation of the yard

We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the yard and ensure that work gets done safely, efficiently and correctly.

You will need to be comfortable making day-to-day operational decisions, delegating work, holding employees accountable and communicating any issues to management.

This is not solely an office-based supervisory position. You will be expected to be visible and active in the yard, working with and supporting the team as required.
