Mental Health & Disability Support WorkersWollongong, NSW | Morning & Evening Shifts | OngoingWe are seeking experienced Mental Health & Disability Support Workers to support participants with complex mental health needs across the Wollongong region.This is a high-priority recruitment due to changes in the existing workforce.Applicants must have availability across at least 3–4 days per week and be able to commit to a minimum of ***** hours per week.About the RoleYou will be supporting participants with complex mental health conditions, including:SchizophreniaSchizoaffective DisorderPTSDCo-occurring alcohol and drug usePsychosocial disability and complex behavioural needsSupport will involve working in dynamic environments where participants may experience distress, emotional dysregulation, or periods of mental health deterioration.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide person-centred mental health support in line with individual care plansSupervise and prompt medication administration in accordance with protocolsImplement Positive Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), including proactive and reactive strategiesUse de-escalation techniques, low-arousal communication, and emotional regulation skills during periods of distressSupport participants experiencing symptoms such as paranoia, delusions,



or disorganised thinking while maintaining safetyWork confidently in environments where substance use may be present, applying harm-minimisation approaches and professional boundariesRecognise early warning signs and follow escalation pathways, including contacting emergency services when requiredMaintain accurate, objective documentation including case notes, incident reports, and handoversCommunicate effectively with the wider support team and managementRespect participant choice and control, including the right to refuse supportAssistance with personal care and manual handling when requiredSupport with hygiene, cleaning, and beddingAssist with daily living tasks to promote independenceEssential RequirementsDemonstrated experience supporting individuals with complex mental health needs, ABI, and/or behavioural challengesStrong emotional regulation skills and calm, skilled communication styleExperience implementing Behaviour Support Plans and following safety protocolsAbility to work independently and within a team in high-pressure environmentsNDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)First Aid & CPR (or willingness to obtain)Valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle (mandatory)Availability across a minimum of 3–4 days per week
