National Biologics Facility, based in the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) Full-time (100%), fixed-term position through to 31 December ****.
Base salary will be in the range $85,452 to $94,984 + 17% super (HEW Level 5).
Based at our St Lucia Campus.
About This Opportunity
The National Biologics Facility is seeking a passionate and collaborative Research Scientist to provide specialist technical expertise within its Analytics team.
Working in an innovative research environment supporting discovery, bioprocessing (upstream and downstream) and quality assurance, you will execute analytical assays that characterise recombinant protein biologics and support their development as therapeutic agents.
This is an opportunity to apply your passion and scientific expertise to translational research and help advance the next generation of innovative therapeutics and protein research.
Key responsibilities
Execute analytical assays for characterisation of quality attributes of recombinant protein biologics
Assist with qualification of analytical assays for batch release and stability testing
Undertake protein formulation studies
Peer review of Test Methods and Batch Reports for internal quality assurance
Communicate results in detailed batch reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders
Support the development of more junior research engineers, scientists, technicians, and research higher degree students
Assist with wider NBF activities as required, including cross-functional support across discovery, upstream, and downstream teams
Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor
Assist with maintaining the Facility's Quality Systems, including authoring and following Standard Operating Procedures with a high attention to detail
Assist in the maintenance and daily operation of the laboratory, clean room facilities and equipment
About You
Qualifications and training equivalent to a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in a relevant area (Bioengineering, Bioprocessing, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry)
Experience in analytical characterisation of recombinant proteins; experience in assay development and qualification is desirable.
Demonstrated competency in executing experimental procedures, record keeping and interpretation of results.
Well-developed problem-solving skills, with an ability to forward plan, manage projects, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work with a high level of adaptability, both independently and as part of a team.
Experience in generating, following and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures,



record keeping and preparation of reports.
Responsible approach to equipment use and maintenance.
Computer literacy including experience with standard office software and electronic databases.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct documentation.
Knowledge of the biologics manufacturing industry in GMP environments is desirable, as is experience in writing Standard Operating Procedures and experience working under a Quality Management System.
