Berlasco Caring Centre, part of the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland (ECCQ), is seeking a proactive and skilledMaintenance Officerto support the care and wellbeing of our residents by ensuring our facility remains secure, compliant, and comfortable.

About the Role
The Maintenance Officer is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of Berlasco's buildings, grounds, equipment, and physical environment.
This hands-on role combines practical maintenance skills with a strong commitment to resident safety, dignity, and comfort.
You will play a key role in ensuring the facility complies with aged care, workplace health and safety, fire safety, and building standards while helping create a welcoming, home-like environment for residents.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance and Repairs
Perform maintenance and repair work including carpentry, painting, plastering, tiling, minor plumbing, furniture repairs, and general property upkeep.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and prioritise urgent issues affecting resident safety and wellbeing.
Conduct regular inspections and proactively identify maintenance requirements.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance requests and completed works.
Preventative Maintenance
Implement and maintain a planned preventative maintenance schedule.
Monitor and maintain building infrastructure, plant, equipment, air conditioning systems, hot water systems, lifts, emergency equipment, and fire systems.
Maintain maintenance records, inspection reports, certifications, and service histories.
Resident Room Preparation
Prepare rooms between resident occupancies, including repairs, painting, refurbishment, and equipment checks.
Ensure rooms are safe, welcoming,
and ready for current admissions within required timeframes.
Contractor Coordination
Obtain quotes from approved contractors.
Coordinate and supervise contractors on-site.
Ensure all contractor licences, insurances, certifications, and inductions remain current.
Verify quality of works completed before invoice approval.
Safety and Compliance
Support compliance with:
Aged Care Act ****
Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards
Workplace Health and Safety legislation
Queensland Fire Safety requirements
Infection prevention and control standards
Conduct safety inspections and assist with emergency preparedness activities.
Maintain compliance documentation and support quality audits.
About You
Minimum 3 years' experience in building or facilities maintenance
Demonstrated experience in carpentry, painting, plastering, tiling, minor plumbing, and general repairs
Experience managing preventative maintenance schedules and work order systems
Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
Essential Requirements
Current National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
Current Australian Driver Licence
Unlimited working rights in Australia
Up-to-date vaccinations as required under aged care legislation and ECCQ policy
Desirable Qualifications
Trade qualification in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or a related trade
Certificate IV in Facilities Management or similar qualification
Fire Safety Supervisor Certification (Queensland)
WHS Representative Training
Experience using maintenance management software systems
