Key Responsibilities
Assembly and Integration
Assemble precision opto-mechanical systems, optical instruments, and electromechanical assemblies.
Install and align optical components including lenses, mirrors, filters, beam splitters, cameras, sensors, and laser systems.
Perform mechanical fitting, adjustment, and calibration of precision components.
Build prototypes and production units in accordance with engineering drawings and documented procedures.
Conduct cable routing, harness installation, and basic electrical integration activities.
Testing and Validation
Execute system-level functional, environmental, and performance testing.
Perform optical alignment and verification using appropriate metrology and test equipment.
Record and analyse test results and report deviations or non-conformances.
Support troubleshooting and root-cause investigations on product and manufacturing issues.
Maintenance and Repair
Diagnose faults in mechanical, optical, and electromechanical systems.
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance activities.
Repair or replace defective components and verify system performance after repair.
Maintain calibration status of tools and test equipment.
Quality and Safety
Ensure all work complies with quality standards, engineering specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Adhere to ESD, cleanroom, optical handling, laser safety, and workplace safety procedures.
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work workplace.

Required Qualifications
Trade qualification as a Mechanical Technician, Fitter and Turner, Precision Mechanic, Instrument Technician, Engineering Technician, or equivalent experience.
Certificate IV, Diploma, Associate Degree, or relevant technical qualification preferred.
Experience 3+ years of experience in precision mechanical assembly, instrumentation, optical systems, aerospace, defence, medical devices, scientific instruments, or related industries.
Experience assembling and testing complex mechanical or electromechanical systems.
Experience interpreting technical drawings, CAD models, and assembly instructions.
Desirable Experience Laser systems integration and alignment.
Aerospace, defence, photonics, scientific instrumentation, or space-industry experience.
Environmental and vibration testing.
Personal It must be an Australian citizen, with an active or be eligible for NV1 security clearance.
