Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is currently recruiting for a Principal Piping Designer to join our team in Melbourne on a 12 month contract basis.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing and contributing to Projects in accordance with project budget, technical requirements, developing cost estimates, and undertake and leading design reviews to ensure they are fit for purpose and be confident in executing these plant layouts and piping design activities utilising in house PDMS system.
This role will be part of a close knit and proficient Engineering Team with in WOOD that supports each other as well as ensuring our client receives best practice support, ensuring we deliver at the highest level possible.
Responsibilities
Focal point for a specific offshore Brownfields project and ensure that they deliver the project requirements on time and within budget
Responsible for planning, checking of design drafting and conformance to standards
Evaluate and execute all Piping design engineering deliverables and related services on portfolio of work within schedule
Ensure deliverables are presentable, accurate and consistency checked as to the project requirements
Provide creativity, foresight and mature design judgement in anticipating and solving Piping design problems efficiently and economically
Liaise effectively with other disciplines, engineers and clients' representatives
Provide effective written communication in site surveys and technical reports
Responsible for knowledge and use of all piping company & industry procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines & practices
Understand requirements of the design quality system and meticulously ensure that these requirements are met
Represent Piping design commitments and requirements on all assigned projects
Manage all aspects of the discipline scope for the project including technical integrity, safety in design, and sustainable design where applicable
Raising Change Requests when information and scope deviations arise
Safety – Responsible for personal safety and working within the Occupational Health & Safety procedures
Qualifications
12+ years' of Piping Design experience in Petrochem / O&G; industry, with a predominate weighting on Offshore design, preferably brownfield
Min 8 years in a Senior designer role in the in to Oil and Gas industry
Familiar with the prime drivers related to offshore topsides layout design
Experience in Layout developments and equipment location plan developments
Familiar with Design Standards and General Specifications
Managing independently piping design activities as the project focal point
A sound knowledge of the codes and standards and a good understanding of offshore engineering practices applicable to topsides piping design for oil and gas facilities
A experienced user of the 3D PDMS modelling and sound knowledge of 2D drafting systems applicable to piping layout and design
To be the main piping project interface between client and project management,
showing capability and confident in success fulling managing people with requirements and Project expectations
A proven track record in performing the full range of piping discipline design and analysis
Prior experience and capacity to work in an offshore setting from time to time is essential
A solid understanding of fabrication, construction and installation activities is essential
