Project Officer – Head to Health Kids Hub (Aboriginal Identified)
Location: Penrith, NSW
Work Type: Full-Time
(Fixed-Term – 12 months)

About Us
Greater Western Aboriginal Health Service (GWAHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation committed to empowering Aboriginal people to take control of their health and wellbeing through culturally secure, holistic, and community-led care.
We deliver a range of clinical and community programs across Western Sydney, Nepean, and the Blue Mountains.
We are seeking a passionate and community-focused Project Officer – Head to Health Kids Hub to join our team in Penrith.
This role will lead community engagement and support the development of culturally safe, accessible and responsive services for Aboriginal children and families through the NSW Head to Health Kids Hubs initiative.
About the Role
As the Project Officer, you will work closely with Aboriginal children, families, Elders, community organisations and health services to ensure Aboriginal voices and lived experiences are embedded throughout the planning and delivery of the Kids Hubs.
You will play a key role in strengthening partnerships between GWAHS, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, Local Health Districts and the broader community.
Key Responsibilities
Lead consultations with Aboriginal children, families and Elders.
Facilitate culturally safe engagement activities including yarning circles, focus groups and workshops.
Build and maintain strong relationships with community, health, education and early childhood partners.
Represent GWAHS at community forums and interagency meetings.
Develop and coordinate project plans, timelines, activities and key deliverables.




Coordinate community events and engagement activities.
Support the integration of cultural safety across Kids Hub services.
Provide cultural advice and support to partners and service providers.
Act as a key link between Aboriginal communities and mainstream services.
Capture community feedback, outcomes and lessons learned.
Monitor project progress, identify risks and support timely solutions.
Prepare project reports for internal stakeholders and funding bodies.
Assist with the development of evaluation tools to measure community impact.
Essential Criteria
Confirmation of Aboriginality
Demonstrated experience engaging and working with Aboriginal communities.
Strong project management, planning, coordination and reporting skills.
A strong understanding of the health and social issues affecting Aboriginal children and families.
Excellent communication, relationship-building and facilitation skills.
The ability to engage with community in a culturally safe and respectful way.
The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
An understanding of Aboriginal culture, history and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal communities.
Desirable
Previous experience in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO)
Familiarity with the NSW Head to Health Kids Hubs model and local health systems will be highly regarded.
Qualifications & Requirements
Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, Health, Project Management or a related discipline.
Current Working with Children Check.
National Police Check.
Current NSW Driver's Licence.
