We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Manager / Accountant to take full ownership of the financial operations of a well-established, Australia-wide freight and logistics business.

The Prospect
This is a standalone finance role with full autonomy over the company's financial function. You will be the sole finance professional in the business, working closely with the owners/directors and taking end-to-end ownership of financial records, month-end processes, and taxation and compliance obligations. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable managing the full accounting function independently within a fast-moving logistics environment, where freight volumes, fuel costs and vehicle/asset management all feed directly into the numbers.
About You
You are organised, accurate and take pride in getting the detail right. You're comfortable juggling competing deadlines, enjoy problem-solving, and are confident owning the finance function independently with minimal oversight.
You will bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline
- Relevant accounting experience, ideally in freight, transport, logistics or a similar operational industry
- CPA or CA qualification (or actively progressing towards one)
- Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards and taxation requirements
- Demonstrated experience with month-end and year-end processes
- Strong Excel and data analysis skills
- Experience with accounting/ERP software (e.g. Xero, MYOB, SAP) highly regarded
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive, can-do attitude
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Manage payment processing and supplier reconciliations
- Oversee customer invoicing, freight billing and accounts receivable follow-up
- Process employee expense reimbursements
- Reconcile fuel, vehicle and subcontractor costs
Fleet & Asset Management
- Maintain the Fixed Assets register, including additions, disposals and depreciation for the vehicle fleet and equipment
- Track and reconcile fuel levy and running-cost allocations across the fleet
Month End
- Prepare month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation and other adjusting entries
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations
- Manage intercompany accounts and transactions where applicable
Taxation & Compliance
- Prepare and lodge BAS, PAYG and other statutory obligations
- Assist with annual Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) processes
- Ensure compliance with relevant transport and logistics industry regulations as they relate to finance
Analysis & Reporting
- Prepare monthly Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reports
- Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
- Assist with year-end close and external audit requirements
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and controls
