Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking a Locum Paediatrician Consultant / Specialist / VMO to provide paediatrics on-call and ward coverage.

This role is suited to an experienced Paediatrician who is confident covering a 24-hour on-call roster, supporting ward patients, reviewing paediatric presentations and providing clinical guidance to junior staff.

The placement is well supported by a full junior medical team, making this a strong option for a Paediatrician seeking regional locum work within a supportive health district.

Clinical Environment

You will provide Paediatrics and Child Health consultant-level cover in a regional hospital setting within Hunter New England LHD.

- 24-hour on-call cover – provide senior paediatric support across the ward roster
- Ward-based paediatrics – review and manage paediatric inpatients as required
- Junior team support – work with a full junior medical team throughout the placement
- Regional hospital exposure – support paediatric care in a community-focused hospital setting
- Clear escalation pathways – work within a supportive team environment with escalation processes in place

Patient Demographic

You will support a broad paediatric patient mix, including infants, children and adolescents requiring ward-based care, clinical review, management planning, escalation or ongoing paediatric support.

Key Duties

- Provide 24-hour paediatrics on-call cover
- Support ward-based paediatric care
- Review and manage paediatric presentations as required
- Provide clinical guidance to junior medical staff
- Complete documentation, handover and management plans




- Escalate care appropriately when required

Requirements

- Current AHPRA Specialist Registration
- Recent Paediatrics consultant-level experience
- Strong clinical judgement and communication skills
- Ability to supervise and support junior staff
- Ability to complete SDPR training prior to commencement
- Current CV, references and compliance documents as required
