Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking a Locum General Surgery Consultant / Specialist / VMO to provide surgical cover at a regional hospital.

This role is suited to an experienced General Surgeon who is confident supporting surgical presentations, clinical decision-making, documentation and escalation of care where required.

You will work within a supportive regional hospital environment, providing senior surgical input across day shift coverage.

Clinical Environment

You will provide General Surgery Consultant-level cover within a regional hospital setting in Hunter New England LHD.

- Consultant-level cover – provide senior General Surgery support across rostered shifts
- Day shift structure – shifts generally run 08:00 – 18:00
- Regional surgical exposure – review and manage surgical presentations in a regional hospital setting
- Supportive workplace – work with hospital teams and escalation pathways available
- GESA requirement – suitable for General Surgeons with current GESA certification

Patient Demographic

You will support a broad regional surgical patient mix, including acute surgical presentations, ward-based surgical reviews, procedural presentations and patients requiring assessment, management planning, escalation or ongoing surgical care.

Key Duties

- Provide General Surgery clinical cover
- Review and manage surgical patients
- Support clinical decision-making and management plans
- Complete documentation and handover as required
- Escalate care appropriately when needed
- Work collaboratively with surgical, nursing and hospital teams

Requirements





- Current AHPRA Specialist Registration
- Recent General Surgery consultant-level experience
- GESA certification required
- Strong communication, leadership and clinical judgement
- Current CV, references and compliance documents as required
