Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking a Locum GP VMO or CMO In-Charge to provide Emergency Department cover at a regional hospital
This role is suited to a confident doctor with robust Emergency Medicine experience who is comfortable working as the sole doctor in charge.

Clinical Environment
You will provide in-charge Emergency Department cover in a regional hospital setting within Hunter New England LHD.

- Sole doctor in charge – provide senior ED cover across the rostered night shift
- Night shift structure – shifts generally run 20:00 – 08:00
- High-acuity exposure – manage urgent and complex emergency presentations
- Specialist support – access on-site anaesthetics, gynaecology and remote retrieval teams
- Regional ED experience – work in a hands-on environment with broad clinical variety

Patient Demographic

You will support a broad regional Emergency Department patient mix, including adults, older patients, families, acute medical presentations, trauma, high-acuity presentations and patients requiring assessment, stabilisation, escalation or retrieval.

Key Duties

- Provide in-charge Emergency Department cover
- Assess and manage patients presenting to the ED
- Support urgent and high-acuity presentations
- Complete clinical documentation and handover
- Escalate care appropriately when required
- Remain onsite for the full shift, excluding designated breaks

Requirements

- Current AHPRA Registration
- Recent Emergency Medicine experience
- GP VMO or CMO in-charge experience preferred




- Strong clinical judgement and communication skills
- Ability to complete SDPR training prior to commencement
- Current CV, references and compliance documents as required
