The Role

As a Student Support Officer (SSO) within the Cape York Leaders Program (CYLP), you will provide hands-on, culturally grounded support to Indigenous secondary students participating in the Academic Leaders Secondary (ALS) phase of the program.

Based in Brisbane (with travel as required), you will work closely with students, families, schools and service providers to ensure each student receives the academic, wellbeing and leadership support they need to thrive, remain engaged and successfully complete their schooling.

This role is central to building robust, trusted relationships with students and ensuring effective case management across academic achievement, wellbeing and leadership development.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide student-centred case management, monitoring academic progress, wellbeing and engagement
- Build strong, supportive relationships with students, families, schools and communities
- Support student recruitment to ensure scholarship places are filled and maintained
- Coordinate access to tutoring,



mentoring and additional supports as required
- Develop, implement and regularly review individual case, leadership and transition plans
- Support students to successfully transition from secondary school to tertiary education or pathways
- Assist in the delivery of leadership workshops, camps and program events
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes and data within the CYLP database
- Act as a liaison point for partner schools and relevant service providers

What You'll Need

Essential

- Demonstrated experience in case management, student support or youth work
- Ability to engage effectively with Indigenous young people and build trusted relationships
- Understanding of issues impacting Indigenous students, particularly those from remote communities
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
- Sound computer, written and reporting skills
- Current Driver Licence, Working with Children Blue Card and ability to complete a Police Check

Desirable

- Qualifications in education, youth work, social work or a related field
- Experience working with boarding schools, secondary education or scholarship programs
- Knowledge of Cape York communities and education pathways
