Aspen Medical is seeking an accomplished Director – Government Relations to strengthen our institutional standing and build trusted relationships across Commonwealth, state and territory governments.
This senior role will lead Aspen Medical’s government stakeholder engagement strategy, public affairs positioning, and political and policy intelligence capability. You will work closely with senior executives to ensure the organisation is well positioned to anticipate government priorities, respond to policy and procurement reform, and pursue emerging opportunities.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver Aspen Medical’s government engagement strategy, including stakeholder mapping, relationship priorities and an annual engagement calendar.
- Build and maintain a tiered stakeholder map across Commonwealth, state and territory governments.
- Lead government meetings and briefings and prepare executives for high-value or politically sensitive engagements.
- Monitor policy, legislation, budgets, procurement reform, competitor activity and relevant international health markets, particularly across Asia-Pacific.
- Provide timely political and policy intelligence to Marketing, Growth and executive leaders, identifying emerging risks and opportunities.
- Lead public affairs, advocacy and thought leadership activities, including participation in government advisory bodies, consultations and industry forums.
- Coordinate with the growth team to support bids, manage shared stakeholders and ensure consistent government-facing messaging aligned with Aspen Medical’s brand.
About you
You are a highly credible and politically astute government relations professional with the judgement, discretion and relationship-building skills required to operate effectively at senior levels.
To succeed in this role,
you will bring:
- Significant senior experience in government relations, public affairs or political advisory roles.
- A strong track record of building trusted and influential relationships with senior Commonwealth government stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of Commonwealth policy, decision-making and procurement processes.
- Experience developing stakeholder maps, engagement strategies and executive briefing materials.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex political and policy developments into clear strategic advice.
- Experience coordinating government engagement across commercial and corporate functions.
- Exceptional communication, judgement and discretion when managing government-specific content, sensitive relationships and reputational matters.
Highly regarded
- Experience within government, a ministerial office, or a political advisory environment.
- Knowledge of outcomes-based procurement, performance-based contracting or procurement reform.
- International government relations experience, particularly across Asia-Pacific, and exposure to public affairs, advocacy or thought leadership.
- Postgraduate qualifications in public policy, law, strategy or a related discipline.
