About us

Foundation Advisory Pty Ltd, established in 2016, provides specialist advice across superannuation, taxation, accounting, inter-generational wealth transfer, and consulting. The firm focuses on timely, expert guidance delivered through an integrated and holistic approach to traditional tax and accounting services.

We hold an AFSL, and we handle end to end processing of our SMSF portfolio in house. We are a small, close-knit team that prides itself on a high standard of technical work and personal service. Our clients rely on us to get the detail right, and we are looking for someone who takes the same pride in that.

The opportunity

We are looking for an experienced SMSF Accountant to join us on a part-time basis, working from home. This is a fully remote role open to candidates anywhere in Australia, with approximately three days per week. You choose the days and hours: school hours or compressed days both work for us, provided deadlines are met and you have reasonable overlap with Melbourne business hours.

This role suits someone who has experience preparing SMSF year-end work in BGL Simple Fund 360. You will prepare SMSF year-end work from start to finish, working autonomously with technical support when you need it.

Main duties and responsibilities

- Preparation of SMSF year-end accounts, including financial statements, member statements and SMSF Annual Returns (SAR), for a portfolio of self-managed superannuation funds using BGL Simple Fund 360
- Preparation of year-end workpapers using the workpapers function within BGL Simple Fund 360
- Process and reconcile fund transactions, including bank data feeds, investment income, contributions, pension payments and rollovers
- Calculate member contributions and pension payments, monitor contribution caps and minimum/maximum pension limits,

and prepare Transfer Balance Account Reports (TBAR)
- Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and Instalment Activity Statements (IAS) where applicable
- Apply the rules relating to contribution caps, the SIS Act, SIS Regulations and ATO requirements, including the sole-purpose test, in-house asset rules and related-party transaction rules
- Identify client mistakes and troubleshoot how to fix them (shortfall in minimum pension, incorrect withdrawals, exceeding contribution caps)
- Ensure the correct allocation of superannuation contributions and pension withdrawals
- Prepare audit workpapers and supporting documentation, and liaise with the independent SMSF auditor to resolve queries
- Preparation of superannuation fund cover letters and year-end packs
- Preparation of pension paperwork (commencement and commutation)
- Maintain corporate trustee and superannuation fund records
- Manage ASIC lodgements using BGL CAS 360
- Liaise internally on queries for SMSF year-end work and draft queries for your manager to review
- Manage and track your own workflow to maintain deadlines
- Keep up to date with changes to superannuation legislation, tax rules and ATO rulings
- Other tasks as directed
