Brand Noise is seeking an experienced and enterprising business journalist to work across ChannelNews and SmartHouse Magazine

This is an opportunity to cover one of Australia’s most dynamic industries, where retail, business and technology intersect. Your stories could range from major acquisitions, company results and regulatory investigations to robotics, artificial intelligence, televisions, audio products and the latest foldable smartphones.

ChannelNews is Australia’s leading industry publication covering the consumer electronics, appliance and audio markets, attracting more than one million unique visitors each month.

Our daily newsletter is read by senior executives at major retailers, technology companies, appliance suppliers and other businesses operating across this fast-moving market.

SmartHouse Magazine delivers consumer-focused technology news, product coverage and reviews, helping Australians understand the products and technologies reshaping their homes and lifestyles.

The role

As Business Editor, you will identify, investigate and produce original stories covering the companies, executives and financial developments shaping Australia’s consumer technology and retail sectors.

You will report on major global businesses including Apple, Samsung, LG, Google and Amazon, as well as Australian retailers such as JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Woolworths and Wesfarmers.

Your responsibilities will include

- Writing daily business and technology news
- Developing exclusive Australian angles on international stories
- Monitoring company results,



acquisitions, executive movements and regulatory investigations
- Tracking developments across the consumer electronics, appliance, audio and retail industries
- Writing analysis that explains the commercial significance of industry developments
- Producing product news and reviews covering smartphones, televisions, audio equipment, robotics and emerging technologies
- Managing and commissioning content for SmartHouse Magazine

Creating compelling headlines and selecting images that attract readers Building relationships with retailers, suppliers, executives and industry sources

You will have access to a strong pipeline of story leads, international announcements, press releases, financial information and overseas industry events. However, we also want a journalist who can identify original stories, develop sources and uncover information that competitors have missed.

About you

You will already be a successful news reporter with at least three years of experience covering business, technology, retail or a related field.

You will have

- Strong news judgement and an instinct for identifying stories
- A passion for breaking news and securing exclusive angles
- Excellent writing, research and interviewing skills




- An understanding of business reporting and financial issues
- A genuine interest in consumer technology and emerging products
- The ability to explain complex subjects clearly and accurately
- Experience working quickly in a daily digital publishing environment
- An understanding of how headlines, images and presentation influence readership
- The confidence to review and assess current technology products
