Want a hands-on casual job where you actually learn something? We'll train you to run a CNC machine.
Asmbl is a custom joinery and fitout shop in Mitchell — high-end cabinetry for homes and commercial projects. We're a small team, and unusually for a joinery shop, genuinely well organised: we run on Lean/5S principles, everything has a labelled place, and every process is documented and constantly improved. If you've worked somewhere chaotic before, this is the opposite.
The deal
- Casual, 2–3 days a week — we'll work your days around whatever else you've got going on: study, family, another job, semi-retirement
- No weekends, no nights — done by 4pm
- Full training on everything, including our CNC (the heart of the workshop)
- Real work from day one — this isn't a broom-holding job
The work
- Running and loading the CNC under guidance
- Edge banding, assembly, and workshop prep
- Deliveries, materials handling, and stock organisation
- Keeping the workshop to our 5S standard
- Speaking up when you spot a better way to do something — we genuinely want your ideas
Workshop-based — no site work or installations. And if joinery grabs you, there's a real pathway here — more days, more responsibility, up to and including a formal apprenticeship. No pressure either way.
What we're looking for
This role suits all sorts — a uni student, a parent working school-friendly days,
someone easing back into work, or anyone who wants solid part-time hours doing practical work. What matters to us:
- No experience necessary — full training provided
- Reliable — if you say you'll be there Tuesday, you're there Tuesday
- Curious about how things work and how they could work better
- Takes pride in a clean, organised space
- Comfortable with physical work and manual handling
- White Card, or willingness to get one — we'll point you in the right direction
- Driver's licence a bonus, not essential
What we offer
- $26–$29/hr based on experience, reviewed as you take on more
- Superannuation at the current legislated rate
- Days that flex around your life
- A genuinely well-run workshop with explicit systems, not chaos
- Start as soon as we find the right person
To apply: apply through Indeed with your resume. You'll be asked one written question as part of the application — it's the part we read first. We're less interested in your CV line items than in how you think. Pay: $26.00 – $29.00 per hour
Application Question(s)
- Why does this role interest you?
- Give one example — from any part of your life, not just work — where you noticed something inefficient or poorly set up and did something about it.
