Senior Software Engineer - Digital & Data
Location: Canberra, ACT
Contract: Labour-hire contract to 30 June 2027, with two 12-month extension options
Pay: $130 - $160 p/h including super (negotiable)
Work type: Full-time
Work arrangement: Hybrid, with specific arrangements agreed with your supervisor on a case-by-case basis
Clearance: Must hold a current NV1 clearance or above
About the Role
This is a senior hands-on software engineering role with our Federal Government client. You will deliver secure, scalable and resilient AWS cloud-native solutions while providing technical leadership across the full software development lifecycle.
You will work in multi-disciplinary Agile teams across applications, APIs, integrations, serverless services and containerised workloads. The role combines hands-on engineering with design ownership, quality, deployment, operational support and technical advice.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design and develop AWS cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices and integrations
- Build event-driven, serverless and containerised solutions using AWS services
- Develop with Java, Python, Node.js, JavaScript and TypeScript
- Provision AWS infrastructure using Terraform, CloudFormation or AWS CDK
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines across development, test and production
- Lead software and systems design, architecture reviews and technical trade-offs
- Perform testing, code reviews,
quality assurance and defect resolution
- Investigate production incidents, defects and performance issues
- Provide technical leadership and specialist AWS advice
- Produce solution designs, architecture diagrams, API specifications, runbooks and deployment documentation
What You Bring (Essential Criteria)
- You've taken technical responsibility across complex software development from design through deployment and support
- You can design complex software and systems while balancing functional and non-functional requirements
- You've delivered secure AWS cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices or integration services
- You can lead systems integration, build automation and continuous integration practices
- You've used Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD in production delivery environments
- You can guide engineers on methods, tools, standards, software quality and security
- You're an Australian citizen
- You must hold a current NV1 clearance or above
Nice to Have (Desirable Criteria)
- Experience monitoring emerging technologies and assessing their practical impact
- Experience providing detailed specialist technical advice
- Organisational-level release and deployment policy or governance experience
- Experience leading business process improvement using technology and automation
