Position Details

St Gerard’s Catholic Primary School is a Kindergarten to Year 6 Catholic primary school located in Westminster. Grounded in the Mercy tradition, we are committed to providing a faith-filled, inclusive and high-quality education where every child is known, valued and supported to flourish.

We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic and committed Education Assistant to join our school community. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and other staff to support students with disability and additional learning needs to access, participate in and engage successfully with their learning.

The role involves supporting individual students and small groups, implementing documented learning adjustments and support strategies, promoting student independence and wellbeing, and assisting students to participate fully in classroom and wider school activities.

We are seeking an Education Assistant who builds positive relationships with children, works effectively as part of a team and demonstrates patience, flexibility, initiative and a genuine commitment to inclusive education.

Selection Criteria

- Be supportive of the Catholic ethos of the school and contribute positively to its faith life, Mercy charism and community.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to inclusive education and supporting students with disability and additional learning needs.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with individual students and small groups under the direction of the classroom teacher.




- Demonstrate the capacity to support the implementation of individualised learning programs, documented adjustments and student support strategies.
- Build positive and appropriate relationships with primary-aged students and demonstrate patience, empathy, flexibility and respect.
- Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills and the capacity to work collaboratively as part of a professional team.
- Demonstrate an understanding of student wellbeing, duty of care, confidentiality and appropriate qualified boundaries.
- Demonstrate reliability, initiative and the capacity to respond calmly and appropriately to the diverse learning, behavioural, communication and wellbeing needs of students.

Qualifications Required

- Current Working with Children Check, or eligibility to obtain one prior to commencement.
- Appropriate police/criminal history clearance as required for employment.
- Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School, or willingness to obtain the required accreditation.
- Legal entitlement to work in Australia.

Desirable

- Certificate IV in School Based Education Support, Education Support or equivalent.
- Previous experience working with students with disability or additional learning needs.
- Experience working within a primary school environment.
