The Opportunity:

Pacific Talent Partners has been engaged to appoint a Financial Controller for an established financial services organisation. Operating across lending, commercial finance, and credit markets, this business is experiencing a period of ongoing evolution and operational refinement.

The Role

Reporting directly to the leadership team, the Financial Controller holds end-to-end accountability for overall accounting operations and financial management. This is an autonomous, hands-on role for a self-sufficient finance professional who can run the day-to-day finance function independently.

Key Responsibilities:

- Financial Operations & Reporting: Drive the end-to-end monthly close process, prepare clear Board and Management packages, coordinate budgeting and forecasting cycles, and maintain the general ledger alongside core transactional accounting.
- Treasury, Cash Management & Facility Compliance: Direct daily cash management, working capital, and short-term liquidity forecasting while monitoring banking covenants, borrowing base calculations, multi-currency exposures, and warehouse facility agreements.
- Compliance, Risk & External Audit: Lead the annual audit process end-to-end, ensure compliance with AASB/IFRS accounting standards and corporate tax obligations (GST, FBT, Income Tax), and maintain robust internal controls.
- Systems Improvement & Automation: Proactively eliminate manual processes, reduce heavy Excel dependency, automate routine reporting, and optimise existing ERP and financial software tools.
- Commercial & Transaction Analysis: Provide ad-hoc commercial analysis on transaction structures, facility costs, and operational pricing to support strategic leadership decisions.
- Stakeholder Engagement:

Serve as the primary operational contact for external banking partners, debt providers, tax advisors, external auditors, and senior business leadership teams.

Core Competencies:

- Technical Accounting & Qualifications: Fully CA or CPA qualified with 5–8+ years of post-qualification finance experience, ideally within financial services (leasing, lending, commercial finance, credit funds) or a fast-paced corporate workplace.
- Governance & Treasury Acumen: Practical exposure to banking covenants, treasury management, foreign exchange, multi-currency transactions, and corporate tax processes. Familiarity with hedge accounting is advantageous.
- Systems & Process Improvement: Advanced MS Excel skills paired with experience using modern ERPs, financial management systems, or loan platforms to drive automation and eliminate process bottlenecks.
- Hands-On Executive Leadership: High autonomy and self-sufficiency, with the ability to transition seamlessly between high-level Board reporting and detailed balance sheet reconciliations.
- Strategic Communication: Ability to distil complex financial data into concise insights, with a collaborative, curious approach to building trusted relationships across internal and external stakeholders.

To Apply: We anticipate a high volume of interest and encourage all expressions of interest to apply directly. All applications will be handled with the strictest confidence and will be acknowledged upon receipt. Further details, including a comprehensive position briefing, will be provided to qualified candidates upon application. Applicants must hold unrestricted Australian working rights.
