The Neurostimulation

Team is looking for a Patient Transport Officer to join our highly specialised service, providing safe and effective treatment for people experiencing a range of mental health conditions.

Based primarily at the Mater Mental Health Centre in Waratah, this is an opportunity to become an significant part of a supportive team while contributing directly to the safe and timely delivery of patient care.

The Mater Mental Health Centre has on-site parking and public transport access, making it convenient to get to and from work.

About The Role

As a Patient Transport Officer, your primary responsibility will be the safe and timely transportation of patients between the Mental Health Centre and the Operating Suite, located on the opposite side of the hospital.

You will work closely with the Neurostimulation team and Mental Health Centre ward staff to ensure patients are transported safely and efficiently for ECT treatment.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

- Transporting patients safely in beds, trolleys and wheelchairs.
- Assisting with patient transfers between beds, wheelchairs and trolleys using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Supporting patients who may present with challenging or distressed behaviours during transport.
- Ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the transport process.
- Ensuring patients' medical records remain secure during transportation.
- Cleaning beds and ward equipment as required.
- Delivering and restocking linen across Mental Health Centre units.
- Supporting the supply and storage of oxygen, Twin-O-Vac equipment and regulators.
- Assisting with other non-clinical duties that support the smooth operation of the service.

You will report to the Nurse Unit Manager, Neurostimulation, with opportunities to pick up additional hours when covering staff leave.

About You

You don't need to have extensive healthcare experience to succeed in this role. We're looking for someone who is reliable, approachable, professional and willing to learn.

You will be comfortable spending extended periods on your feet and walking throughout the hospital environment. You will also have the ability to remain calm and professional when faced with unexpected situations and demonstrate sound problem-solving skills.

- Is willing to learn and follow appropriate manual handling and safety procedures.

Manual handling training is highly regarded, however, training and support will be provided.

Essential Requirements

- Current First Aid Certificate.

Training and support You don't need to know everything from day one. All required training will be provided, together with a thorough orientation to the role, equipment, processes and working environment. You'll join a team that will support you to develop the skills and confidence needed to perform your role safely and effectively.

This is more than a patient transport role. You'll play an important part in ensuring patients receive timely access to specialised mental health treatment while supporting the clinical team behind the scenes.

What You'll Be Doing Provide non-clinical support to complement the delivery of safe, effective and quality patient care. This includes: transporting of patients from the Mental Health Centre (MHC) to Calvary Mater operating theatre, maintenance and cleaning of Beds and equipment, Delivery and restocking of linen across all units at MHC.
