Ohana Academy Logan is a new, holistic Justice for Youth Academy being developed by Ohana for Youth in partnership with 54 reasons, part of Save the Children Australia.

The Academy will provide education, wellbeing and support to young people involved in the youth justice system, helping them reconnect with education, training and employment pathways.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Wellbeing & Student Support to play a key leadership role in establishing and delivering the Academy's whole-college wellbeing framework.

This is an opportunity to make a genuine difference for young people who may have experienced significant barriers to education and engagement. The successful candidate will provide leadership across student wellbeing, complex case management, child protection, crisis management, cultural responsiveness and individualised student support.

You will work closely with students, families, teachers, Youth Specialists, Teacher Aides, welfare staff, 54 reasons and external stakeholders to create a safe, inclusive and culturally responsive learning setting.

As Head of Wellbeing & Student Support, you will be responsible for the oversight and delivery of the Academy's wellbeing framework, individualised student programs and student welfare.

Key responsibilities will include

- Leading the implementation of the Academy's wellbeing framework and trauma-responsive practice.
- Leading complex case management and providing advice, training and leadership in crisis management.
- Overseeing mandatory reporting and child protection processes.
- Providing support, advice and resources to staff working with high-needs students.
- Supporting the monitoring of student diagnostic and NCCD data to ensure appropriate reasonable adjustments are delivered.
- Promoting the academic, social, cultural and personal wellbeing of students.
- Developing culturally safe and inclusive practices across the Academy.
- Enhancing cultural understanding and engagement strategies for Indigenous learners.




- Supporting students to develop the social and personal skills required for independent and successful community living.
- Developing Individual Support Plans and appropriate engagement strategies for students.
- Liaising with students, families, staff and external stakeholders to support student success.
- Managing wellbeing referrals for psychological assessment, counselling and intervention.
- Developing referral pathways and relationships with external community services.
- Providing pastoral care and working collaboratively with Teachers, Youth Specialists, Teacher Aides and the Welfare team.
- Supporting the Academy to sustain attendance and engagement among students at risk of disengagement.

The role will be particularly important in establishing systems and practices that support young people to feel safe, connected and capable of engaging with education and future pathways. We are looking for an experienced wellbeing or education professional who understands the complex barriers faced by young people who have disengaged from mainstream education.

You will ideally bring

- A Bachelor of Education or equivalent, or a tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work or an equivalent discipline.
- AHPRA registration where applicable to your professional qualification.
- Queensland College of Teachers registration is desirable.
- Extensive understanding of issues affecting young people at risk.
- Demonstrated experience successfully leading complex case management.
- Knowledge and experience working with young people involved in the youth justice system.




- Strong knowledge and understanding of students with disabilities and disability support.
- Deep expertise in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families, families at risk and culturally diverse communities.
- Experience in a flexible or alternative learning environment.
- Experience in educational psychology and/or youth justice environments.
- Strong understanding of trauma-responsive practice and culturally safe programs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, schools, government departments, employers, training providers and community services.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and research skills.
- The ability to translate broad goals into achievable and practical outcomes.
- The ability to build effective relationships across a diverse range of stakeholders.
- A self-starting, collaborative approach and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- A genuine commitment to creating safe, inclusive and equitable educational environments for young people.
