What to Expect
Terraform Technologies builds solar-powered machines that produce the things people need. Atmosphere is the first one built for a home. It heats, cools and makes hot water on a single water loop, and the heat source is an AI compute node inside the machine.
The node runs paid workloads 24 hours a day and the loop recovers the heat the silicon gives off. 3 cards heat a house. 750 heat a hospital. A 50 m pool takes the loop through a plate exchanger with no heat pump. A laundry or a food factory takes it with a lift stage to 80 °C.
Atmosphere is 80 to 90% engineered. A previous team took it from patent to a working 14-mode prototype with a costed BOM, controlled requirements and suppliers in place. We are hiring the Lead Product Engineer to take it through validation, certification, first production and the first commercial sites. You will be the first engineer on the program. You will report directly to the founder, with a workshop in Cremorne and a budget for contractors, test labs and suppliers.
What You'll Do
- Own the Atmosphere program end to end across residential, commercial and industrial: design, build, test, certify, pilot.
- Recover and re-baseline the existing CAD, BOM, control strategy, test data and supplier base. Decide what stands and what is redone.
- Complete the home unit: control algorithm, production-intent Prototype 2 with production fan coils and control box, design freeze, released drawings and BOM.
- Integrate the compute node into the loop: 1.8 kW of GPU heat into 50 °C water through a water-jacketed enclosure, node-first heat balance, node protection, DC power from grid and solar, per-kWh metering, remote monitoring, sealed-unit field swap.
- Design the outdoor unit as a Terraform product: compressor, fan, coil and node in one enclosure, IP66 around the electronics, locked and alarmed, within night-time boundary noise limits, serviceable from outside.
- Engineer the plant-room system: 20 to 750 cards per rack, manifolded and isolated per node, 3-phase and DC distribution, plate exchangers into the building's existing hydronic loop, and a pool variant with no heat pump. Deliver the first site within 12 months.
- Engineer the accessory kits: greenhouse, spa, plunge pool and pool off the return leg,
each with its own exchanger, controls profile and install guide, at the prices published on the product page.
- Engineer the process-heat variant: the same rack with a lift stage to 60 to 80 °C for laundries, food factories, wash-down and sterilising, with a low-grade return to a glasshouse. Build the tool that quotes a site from its gas bill.
- Run validation and certification: a full heating season and cooling season on the test rig; AS/NZS 60335-2-40, AS/NZS 62368-1, RCM and EESS, WaterMark and AS/NZS 3500.4, GEMS; and the rebate registrations worth A$4,300 per unit to the customer.
- Manage suppliers in Australia and Asia for fan coils, heat pumps, cylinders, valves, pumps, enclosures and electronics. Get pilot units built.
- Direct an industrial designer from month 2 so the wall panel, plant enclosure, node and rack share one design language. Hold design intent through DFM.
- Deliver the software: select the controller, direct a firmware contractor to implement the 14-mode control strategy with an independent node-protection layer, telemetry, signed OTA and a fleet console.
- Run the program: stage gates, a dated plan, a budget, accurate status reporting. Bring in firmware, electronics, certification and industrial design contractors as required.
What You'll Bring
- 10+ years in mechanical or refrigeration product engineering, including at least 1 appliance you personally took from prototype through certification to production.
- Heat pump and hydronic design from first principles: compressor and expansion valve selection, plate heat exchangers, buffer tanks, circulators, sizing from a heat balance.
- Commercial plant experience: retrofit into an occupied building, building certifier sign-off, working knowledge of AS/NZS 3000 and AS 1668.
- Liquid cooling of electronics, or the ability to learn it quickly: cold plates, water jackets,
coolant chemistry, leak and condensation management.
- Working knowledge of Australian compliance: AS/NZS 60335-2-40, AS/NZS 3000, WaterMark, AS/NZS 3500.4, GEMS, RCM, EESS. Refrigerant handling licence, or willingness to obtain one.
- Controls fluency: able to write a control strategy as a state machine, specify the controller, interlocks and telemetry, and manage the firmware contractor.
- Experience working with industrial designers and holding design intent through manufacture.
- DFM, BOM ownership and supplier development, including prototype parts from overseas factories.
- SolidWorks. A disciplined engineering record: PDM, requirements, test data.
- Evidence of exceptional ability and a record of shipping product.
Preferred: experience at an Australian appliance manufacturer or a data-centre liquid-cooling company; power electronics or DC distribution; GPU or IT hardware in an appliance or industrial setting; industrial process heat; VEU, ESS and STC product registration.
Compensation and Benefits
A$180,000 to A$260,000 base, depending on experience, plus 12% superannuation. Milestone bonuses at certification and at first production. Equity in Atmosphere.

2. Evidence of exceptional ability, in whatever form fits: photos or video of the product, drawings, a test report, a repository, a patent. It should be your own work.
3. Up to 2 pages on this problem: a Melbourne house requires 11,400 kWh of heat per year and a 1.8 kW node produces 15,768 kWh. Sketch the loop, place the node, buffer and compressor, explain how you keep the cards within their limits in a January heatwave and a July cold snap, and state what you would do with the surplus. Show your numbers.
