Role Description The Policy Writer internship is a hybrid role based in Australia, with a mix of in-person collaboration and work-from-home flexibility. The intern will draft, review, and refine policy briefs, discussion papers, and position statements that reflect the lived experiences and priorities of young Australians.

Day-to-day tasks include researching policy issues, synthesizing data and stakeholder input, and translating complex information into clear, accessible written content for both internal use and public communication.



The role also involves supporting engagement with Members of Parliament to advocate and table our briefs.

Qualifications

- Solid research and analytical abilities, including experience gathering information from diverse sources and evaluating evidence-based policy options.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the capacity to produce clear, structured policy documents, briefs, and public-facing materials.
- Ability to convey complex ideas in accessible language for youth audiences, decision makers, and the general public.
- Collaborative mindset, with skills in stakeholder engagement, active listening, and working respectfully with diverse groups of young people.
- Organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a hybrid environment.
- Demonstrated interest in public policy, democratic participation, youth advocacy, or social impact; prior experience in related projects or student initiatives is beneficial.
- Relevant academic background or ongoing studies in public policy, political science, law, social sciences, communications, or a related field are advantageous.
- Understanding of Australian political and policy contexts, or a willingness to learn quickly and engage with local issues affecting young people.
